WE HAVE OVER 300 YEARS OF COMBINED BRAND HERITAGE, WITH SOME OF THE MOST ICONIC BEERS IN THE MIDLANDS WE ARE PROUD TO CONTINUE THIS BREWING HERITAGE.
Davenports brewery began in 1829, and our range of revival cask beers harks back to some of the very original secret brews. Highgate Brewery was established in 1898 by James A. Fletcher and began brewing in 1899. Its best known for its classic midlands dark beers , with the “mild” style beer historically being a staple for the workers of the local area. at its peak its was producing 100,000 barrels of mild beer per year. Dares, established in 1927 in Birmingham, Davenports acquired the brand in 1960 now resurrected as a wicked craft beer brand for product and venues.

Bottled (thanks hanniku!). Pale amber colour with mediumsized slightly off-white head. Aroma is fruits, some caramel malts, mild grass. Flavour is fruits, wood, caramel, some grass and mild notes of toffee.

Cask@Southwark Tavern, London. Murku red colour with small head. Aroma is lots of strawberries (tart, but sweet). Flavour is malts, artificial strawberries and some mild rubbery notes as well. A bit harsh.

From cask at Southwark Tavern. Pours hazy deep amber with a lacing white head. Aroma is distinct strawberry. Slight sweet and malty strawberry flavoured. Mild citric to acidic. Mild bitter and dry fruity finish. Overwhelming strawberry aroma and flavour.

500ml bottle. Pours clear golden with a large head. Aroma is very sweet and malty, a bit sickly. A bit sickly in the mouth too, sweet malt throughout, some apples on the finish. Lots of carbonation. Alright, drinkable, but I wouldn’t bother again.

Bottle. Reddish amber beer with strong head. The aroma is mildly roasted, fruity and bitter, and the flavour is bitter, rich, roasted and mildly vinous. Overall a nice drinkable bitter and roasted beer.

Bottle. Amber beer with a very strong head. The aroma is lightly hopped and toffee, and the flavour is gently bitter, mildly hopped and roasted with a light toffee finish. Overall a reasonable bitter like beer.

Bottle. Vibrant bronze beer with a strongish head. The aroma is smoothly hopped and the flavour is mildly roasted, gently malty and hopped. Overall a nice smooth gently roasted and hopped bitter.

12th April 2010. Clear gold beer. Light dry palate. Even malt with some tepid orange hop and a touch of sulfur. Finishes dry.

Bottle. Amber beer with a soon disappearing fizzy head and a fizzy body. The aroma is weakly malt and has a hint of coriander. The flavour is strongly bitter and hopped with a malty quality. Overall a fairly basic but satisfactory strong beer.
