Description
The first real malting statute was confirmed by the municipal council of Iglau, as the town of Jihlava was called till 1948, in 1579. In 1859, all 123 owners of brewing rights in the town and surrounding villages joined in a new brewery, the present Jihlava Brewery. The brewery in Jihlava was opened in 1861, but the brewery considers the year 1860 as the year of its incorporation. From its incorporation the brewery had mainly German owners. After WWII it was nationalised and then privatised in 1995. In 2008 the almost bankrupt brewery was bought by the Pivovary Lobkowicz group. Under the new owners the brewery returned to the production of beer according to old original recipes.

CZECH BEER #999. Draught at Bitzinger Würstelstand near Vienna Opera House (04/2014). Golden yellow with a creamy white head and a nice hoppy nose. Medium-bodied, good malty base and some fine saaz hop flavours, lingering finish. Very good to accompany my Bosna sausage.

50cl Bottle from houseofbeer.nl. Clear deep golden colour, stable creamy white head. Aroma is sweet, honey, deep malty, some raisins, quite fruity, light herbal, some caramelised malts. Flavour is sweet, bordering on cloying, white raisins, white fruits, caramel, tiny hint of toast, very malty, honey, herbal and grassy bitter finish. Medium bodied, slick, some alcohol warmth. Good, way better than expected.

500ml bottle purchased at Vinmonopolet Langnes. Clear amber coloured body under a pearl white head leaving crocheted lacing behind. Bread and brown malty nose. Malt driven taste of sweet grain with some impact of caramel. Fruity hints to a malty ending. Vague hints of alcohol. Quite alright with the pizza, in danger of getting overly sweet though (Tromsø 22.11.2014).
