Description
Baeren Brewery is located in Morioka, Iwate prefecture which belongs in far north up from Tokyo Japan. We have some traditional and old vintage brewing equipment from southern district of Germany and carried here into Morioka. The traditional way of beer brewing still lives on here and Mr. Miyaki who got certificated as a Brewmeister in Berlin, Germany makes great and beautiful beers. The location of our brewery is perfect also for hiking because it is located near the center of the city and stands just by Route 4 but at the same time surrounded by a forest, which means you can easily and naturally feel the nature around.

Baeren Unfiltered Bock 6.5%
I wasn't planning to do drink this tonight but I enjoyed the filtered version so much I cracked open the unfiltered version.
It’s a similar looking dark reddish brown with thick fluffy dense tan foam but I think the unfiltered is longer lasting and leaves better lacing behind. The aroma is more subtle than the filtered while the mouthfeel is much smoother. The taste is similar but I’d say the unfiltered feels more put together. Both are good, the filtered comes off bolder while the unfiltered comes off subtle and even more crushable.
Both were great.

Deep brown with dense thick fluffy beige foam and a roasty chocolatey aroma. Medium to full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel. Apparently made with Japanese grown cascade hops. I thought this was great, really well balanced .

Not sure if this is the same beer as it’s now called a red ale…
This was a random find at Yamaoka Saketen for 5-600¥ I believe.
Baeren Torioh King of Chicken Original Red Ale
5 hops 5%
Baeren x Ofchicke 5th Anniversary collaboration. Nice russet amber red color with thick beige foam that lingers. Malty aroma with hints of tobacco leaf. Medium to light bodied and smooth. Nice mild bitter bite on a big caramel malt body with tobacco and some peppery notes.
Really solid stuff.

Baeren German Pils 5%
Gold with thin foam. It’s got a smooth medium body and a nice crisp bitter bite in the finish. Butter herbal with enough malt backbone to make it eminently crushable.
Greatly enjoyable.

I’m gonna start off with the less traditional sounding:
Baeren Sorachi Gold Lager 5%
Matte gold with fizzy white foam that didn’t stick around. The aroma is herbal and slightly minty. I felt the medium to light body was smooth and crisp but more bitter than I expected.
Solid lager with a twist.

bottle, mail order from the brewery. Clear, bright golden color with a thick, fine head. Nose is bread and crackers, very nice malt and light, herbal hops. Flavor is bready and rich, herbal, bitter hops (seem fresh) with light fruit. Body is quite full but crisp and bright. Pretty great stuff.

Bottle from the brewery. Hazy orange-brown with a tall, fine head. Nose is caramel, cocoa, dark bread and some orange and grass notes. Flavor is bready, rich and slightly sweet, light roast, toast, caramel and chocolate. Creamy and full, rather silky body is nicer than the filtered. Nice enough but not super exciting.

Bottle from the brewery, mail order set. Very dark brown with a tall, fine tan head. Nutty malt nose, chocolate, caramel, bread. Very rich, with light fruity esters. Rich malt flavor, caramel, nuts, toast, dark chocolate. Not sweet, but bready. Finish of cocoa, rye bread toasted, light herbal and citrusy hops. Well done. Highly drinkable.

Bottle, mail order from the brewery. Definitely looks cloudy when pouring. A bit darker than the filtered version. Rich, nutty nose. The difference is on the palate and in the body. Much richer body, fuller, and a deeper, richer malt flavor as well. Much better than the filtered version. Bitterer too.

Baeren Filtered Session IPA 4.5%
Matte gold with wispy white foam and a zesty sweet tart aroma. Medium bodied and semi-dry. This comes off as quite sweet and tangy. Doesn’t feel as well integrated as the unfiltered.
