Description
De kazematten aan het Houten Paard werden gebouwd rond 1680 naar plannen van Vauban, de grote vestingingenieur van Lodewijk XIV. Deze drie unieke kazematten of soutterains maken deel uit van de 17e Eeuwse vestingen die de stad Ieper omwallen.Gedurende de eeuwen werden deze souterrains gebruikt als opslagplaats voor munitie en legermaterieel. Ze deden ook dienst als slaap- en schuilplaats voor de troepen die Ieper tijdens de vele belegeringen hebben verdedigd. Zo richtten de Britse troepen tijdens Wereldoorlog I de kazematten in als 'mess' voor de officieren. Hun commandopost, rustplaats en veldhospitaal werden in 'Hotel de Remparts', zoals de kazematten ironisch werden genoemd, ondergebracht. Ook de Britse soldatenkrant The Wipers Times werd er gedrukt. En nu is er dus een stadsbrouwerij op deze unieke locatie.

Bottle, as Wipers Times Blond. Dirty blond with a cm of dense white head. Mild grainy and doughy aroma with cloves, coriander. Dryish, light bodied, spritzy. Snappily bitter at the end. There's an interesting herb I can't pick but also too much coriander. But fair enough.

Malmö October tasting at Palace Hall (14/10/2023) - notes of orchard fruit, straw, hay, yeasty notes, medium body, lightly spiced floral herbal finish.

Dark brown colour, beige foam. Light sweet, caramel, a bir fruity. Rather dry and bitter, also a bit watery.

Bottle from Dranken Vandewoude and drunk at home. Hazy brown amber colour lasting cream head. Sweet citrus aroma. Smooth. OK tripel. A bit artificial in the mouth. Not the best tripel. Not sure I like it. Could be better.

Bottle from Dranken Vandewoude and drunk at home. Deep dark brown ruby colour. Lasting beige head. Aroma of malty Belgian beer. Pretty much down the line with this abv. Some lightness in mouth. Some spice on finish. Brown malty beer. Fine.

--Bottled. -- Clear golden, mid sized head. Aroma of marzipan and peppery fruit. Mid dry with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Peppery and bready with pineapple and grass. Warming mid bitter finish.

--Bottled (as Wipers Times Blond) at t'Brugs Beertje, Brugge. -- Clear golden, mid sized head. Aroma of coriander and marzipan. Dry with medium body and crisp, rounded mouthfeel. Coriander and celery, bread and marzipan. Mid bitter finish.
