Poured from the tap @ S&O. Very dark brown with small beige head. Fairly dry and roasty with mild chocolate and molasses notes in the background, the coconut is super super feint. The simplicity is quite nice.

473mL can, pours black with a large brown head. Aroma has plenty of roasted malt, light toasted coconut and some molasses. Flavour is dry and roasty, with lots of roasted malt, gentle toasted coconut, and a touch of cocoa. Robust, roasty finish with just enough of the coconut. Good base malts that carry this. Surprisingly excellent.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark amber colour, clean, with medium, tan head; it looks a bit duller than the German sisters. Smoke aroma, medium, less than a slice of traditional Black Forest schinken, but the direction is that one. There's a good malt base, bready, round, with strong smoke; more roasted malts than classic Rauchbiers though. In Aecht Schlenkerla Maerzen there's more malt and body in the finish, oh well...
But, for a local choice, this is good, and at a very interesting price (+1 for this).

5oz pour at The Magnet. Pours clear amber with white head. Aroma has lots of smoke, crusty bready malts. Flaviur has great smokey flavour ashy and bready, good malts, a touch of dry residual sweetness. Excellent.

568mL can, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is potent, with lots of oily resinous hops, bold pine, and a touch of sweet biscuity malt. Flavour has a wonderful piney hop character, some oily resins, and just enough malt to back. This is really well-constructed and balanced. Excellent local WCIPA.

Dec 30, 2024 (7/4/7/3/15=3.6): Poured from 473mL can. Prefer the can pour.. Doesn't have the minerally metallic character. Rating raised. Nov 20, 2024 (7/4/7/3/14=3.5): Poured from the tap @ Magnet. Clear mahogany brown with small off-white head. Nice smokey character, has a very mineraly metallic bitter note hidden in the background though. Okay.

473mL can, pours a clear dark burgundy with a medium beige head. Aroma has a real nice campfire smoke character, accompanied by enough sweet bready malt and toasted caramel to give the whole thing some depth. Flavour has a frankly wonderful malt character of toasted bread, dry caramel, and wonderful campfire smoke. Damn. This is honestly one of the best Bamberg-style rauchbiers I've had outside Aecht Schlenkerla. Deep malt, just enough residual sweetness, with that characteristic smokiness. Excellent.

473 ml can. Pours black with full tan head. Aromas of dark sugars, some dank hops, orange zest and chocolate malts. Flavors of grains, orange zest and bitter roasted malts. Maybe some green coconut. Dry finish. Interesting.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Blond colour, just a bit darker than a lager, with chill haze. The aroma is nice, with a combination of piney resins and citrus peel. Good body structure, it's on the dry side, with bold bready, crusty malts; powerful bitterness, and plenty of piney resin, long finish.
The concept aligns quite well to other modern IPAs, but it may also still satisfy old school palates.
Very good.
