About
40FT is an independent brewery in Dalston, Hackney, producing fresh, modern beer. Starting in the kitchen of a Hackney Houseshare where three homebrewers made beer for their house parties, the venture quickly moved into two 20ft shipping containers located in a disused Dalston car park in 2015, after convincing the head brewer of their local brewery to join them.

Over the last 6 years, 40FT brewery has grown organically by adding more shipping containers like lego and a building a talented team of 15 people. 40FT is now brewing to capacity on a 10HL brew kit, with an output of 7,000 pints a week

Brewing is understood to take place at both sites with more beer being produced at the new Walthamstow / Blackhorse beer mile location.

The registered office on Companies House is neither of the brewing locations so the address used is the primary brewing location on Lockwood Way.

(Cask at Cock Tavern, Hackney, London, 30 May 2025) Black colour with foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with chocolate, milky coffee and dark bread. Malty, roasted, slightly sweetish nose with notes of chocolate, milky coffee and dark bread. Mild roasty bitterness. Light body, with a certain sweetness. Possibly a bit sweet, but tasty and well balanced mild. Nice one.

Can from lowcostbeer.com, consumed 4 months past BBE. Pours black with small tanned head. Aroma of all spice is the first thing that hits you, followed by a dark malt, molasses and raisins. Taste manages sweet, tangy and bitter combined. Dark malts come through quite rich, cardamon, clove and nutmeg are notable, semi-dry with cocoa dusting. Good but I'm more liking it than loving it, maybe slightly too rich for me.

Cask at Pigs Ear Beer Festival 2024, Hackney. London. A golden/straw coloured pour with a medium bubbly white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, grapefruit, pine, stone fruit taste/aroma. Decent IPA.
