About
History goes back to 1442 but it is first mentioned as a 'Brauhaus' in 1487. In the following centuries, ownership and names changed many times till 1933 when the brewery was acquired by brewer Ferdinand Wirtz and his son Cornelius Wirtz. Since then the brewhouse is owned by the Wirtz family. The brewery was destroyed during the war but afterwards the 'Brauhaus' continued its activities though the beer was brewed under contract elsewhere.

Bottle. Color: Clear golden, white head. Aroma: Malt, hoppy background. Taste: Malt, grainy, bread, moderate sweet, light to moderate floral hopbitterness. Mouthfeel is somewhat denser than pilsener / lager beer. Ok.

Schreckenskammer Kölsch, Flasche von Edeka, Berlin. - Goldgelb, blank. - In der Nase arg mattes getreidiges Malz und schwache, dumpfe Anklänge an Hopfen. - Antrunk schlank getreidig-hellmalzig mit betonter Frucht (Orange) aber zu wenig Herbe. Perlend rezent, weich. Im Abgang schwache, dumpfe Bittere und ein wenig Orangenschale. Schwach ranziger Nachtrunk. - Aromatisch dünn und kaum merklich gehopft - trotz des martialischen Namens ein schrecklich harmloses Bierchen. (16.2.2020.)

Bottled 500ml. -from Schneider’s Getränkemarkt Cologne. Pale golden coloured, medium sized white head, bready and light grainy nose. Malty, bready, light grainy, some cereals and bitterish finish. Moderate carbonation.

Many thanks for this Koln beer to Koelschtrinker. Poured into Kuppers Kolsch glass. Piwo nudne, nie jest specjalnie ani nowofalowe, bardzo proste i klasyczne w odbiorze. Piana jest tylko fajna, trwala utrzymuje sie naprawde sporo czasu. Ale smak, niemal niczym nie odbiegajacy od zmieszanego pilsnera z lagerem. Prosty smak i nawet prosta etykieta.
