Schooner on tap at Beverly Hills hotel, Sydney. Golden cider with thin lasting white head. Slight lacing. Nose is sweet and sour, hint of caramel. Streams of tiny bubbles. Neutral taste with finish of apple cores. Industrial brew but better than most Aussie pub ciders.

On tap. Pours pale golden, clean, almost no head. Aroma is lemon drop, candy, green apple, wheat bread. Mouth is fresh, fizzy, quite easy. Dry, bittersweet, abrupt finish. Not bad, although nothing great.

375ml can into shaker. Now called ’Strongbow Lower Carb Cider’. New packaging but otherwise identical. Acidic, tart nose. Pale yellow. No head. Highly carbonated. Dry, chemical, sharp, even a bit salty. This is not a pleasant drinking experience. No apples, just tangy alcoholic mineral water.

355ml bottle into Bulmers pint glass. Now called Strongbow Classic Apple Cider. Green bottle, skunky nose! In the glass smells like vinegar for a while. Looks like urine, no head, minimal carbonation. Fizzy mouthfeel, sherbet taste. Finish is toffee apple, acid and a hint of cooked vegetables. Mass-produced and horrible.
