Cask @ King Charles I, London Kings Cross. Clear golden with a bubbly head. Not as strong tasting as you might expect it to be, but has a fuller-bodied texture with mild tropical fruit flavours.

Aroma is moderate malty, pale malt, moderate hoppy. Flavor is moderate sweet and light bitter with a average to long duration, sharp, nutty, hoppy bitter. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft to flat. (Cask at Old Fountain, Old Street, London, 21 April 2016) Dark brown colour, almost black, with foamy beige head. Malty, roasted nose with coffee, chocolate and dark bread. Malty, roasted taste with notes of coffee, dark chocolate, black rye bread and a generous coffee bitterness in the finish. Medium body, quite dry. Tasty and well made stout. Nice one.

Gravity at Craft 100, 24/03/16. Rich mahogany brown topped with a beige swirl. Nose is fruit cake, roast barley, grain, biscuit crumble, toffee, booze. Taste comprises fruit esters, spice, toffee fudge, stewed dates, toasted brown sugar. Medium + bodied, soft carbonation, warming alcohol in the close. Pretty basic for the style and ABV.

Cask at the craft beer co Clerkenwell. A mostly clear dark orange amber coloured pour with a lasting loose beige head. Aroma is layered nutty / toasted malts, earthy twiggy notes with some brown sugars, and some woodland berries. Flavour is composed of semi sweet toasted nutty malts, bitter earthy dirty finish, bark and hints of earthy coffee. Palate is semi sweet, moderate cask condition. OK.

Cask at Reading Beer Festival. Dark brown. Pleasing light hoppy smell. Bland and watery on tasting, just a little toast and mild fruit. They’ve managed to do what they said; it’s a dark beer that tastes like a golden ale. Unfortunately it’s one of those rather drab and dull golden ales that so dominate the market these days. Shame.

(Cask at Craft Beer St Mary Axe, London, 21 April 2016) Dark ruby colour with creamy, beige head. Malty, slightly roasted nose with notes of caramel, nuts, red fruit and a touch of chocolate. Malty, slightly roasted taste with nuts, caramel, some coffee and a balanced earthy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a slight sweetness. Tasty and well balanced. Quite nice.
