Description
Preparations for Leidsch Bier started in 2003. Before that, owner / brewer JW Fukkink had been active as an amateur beer brewer since 2000. The official start was a fact with the introduction of Leidsch Blond in April 2004. With the move to own business premises (mid 2010) and obtaining the brew / excise permit (May 2011), there was finally a real beer brewery in Leiden again.

Bottled, BB 27-10-2013, large sample. Dark color, big frothy light brownish head. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, blackcurrant, biscuit, dark chocolat, some fruity esters, dark bread. Not much of the raisins in aroma. Lots of dark bread and coffee. Quite bitter in taste, a lot of which is from the dark malts, but also some hop bitterness is present. Sweet as well. Again, I dont get a lot of raisins, even when I’m searching for it. Quite dry in taste, slight high on carbonation. Bit unbalanced. Ok stuff, but I wouldn’t buy a crate of it.

330ml bottle. Clear orangey dark golden to copper colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Grainy and unspecific fruity aroma, a touch of melon, honey, caramel. Taste is dry to bitter hoppy, minimally strawy, cautious malt basis with a touch of caramel and honey. Rather uninspired.

Bottle courtesy of Deanso. Poured a hazy light amber with a big frothy head and high carbonation. The aroma is yeast and weak banana. The flavour is sharp, crisp acidic with some yeasty, banana notes on the refreshing palate. The high carbonation in this beer makes it more refreshing, but also hides some of the more subtle flavours that I am sure are lurking in the background.
