Description
Preparations for Leidsch Bier started in 2003. Before that, owner / brewer JW Fukkink had been active as an amateur beer brewer since 2000. The official start was a fact with the introduction of Leidsch Blond in April 2004. With the move to own business premises (mid 2010) and obtaining the brew / excise permit (May 2011), there was finally a real beer brewery in Leiden again.

Bottled at Lemmy’s. Lemony, mineral nose. A bit astringent malt, like abstract, ok hop flavors with peach, Amarillo. A bit amateurish.

Not bad, but not that great as well. Taste is a little too flat, I like it better when an IPA is more outspoken.

33 cl bottle from PRZH Winter Beer Fest. Had to wait with pouring halfway, because the glass was already totally filled with a huge beige head. Beer is dark brown, murky. Aroma’s: roasted malts, drop/licorice, a bit salty. Retronasal there’s sweetness, a touch of wood/vanilla, lots of roast and some soy sauce, and sweet fruit. Still foaming in the mouth. Flavor is moderately sweet, roasted, coffee-ish, with wood tones. Medium bodied. Finishes ashy and bitter.

Bottle shared with Joes, Dutchdrebus and Martinus. Opaque very dark brown color, medium sized light brown head. Smell roasted malts, coffee, chocolate. Taste malts, roasted malts, coffee, bitter, chocolate and maybe just a touch of raisins, but if it hadn’t been in the name I don’t think I would have tasted it. Medium body, medium yet suitable carbonation. Lovely.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a crystal clear medium amber with a thin broken white head. The aroma is malty leading to a malty, yeasty slightly aromatic hop flavour. Quite drinkable at a summer BBQ.
