Description
Saimaa Brewing Company on yksi Suomen vanhimmista yhä toiminnassa olevista pienpanimoista. Juuremme ulottuvat vuoteen 1995, jolloin ravintoloitsija Pertti Oksa aloitti oluenpanon Mikkelissä 200 litran ravintolapanimossa.

330ml bottle, 4.6 % abv, kindly shared by Elisabeth. Clear golden coloured body. A bubbly ring to the rim of the glass. Fragile lacing. Mild grainy malts on the nose. Modest taste of pale malts, dried fruits, and with note of cardboard to the finish. Soft carbonated. Just possible to drink (Session xxxix with Stefan and Elisabeth, Tromsø 20.09.2014)

An orange colour, a head is weak and blond. The nose has fruits, some tropical fruits, also wood and some toffeeish malts. Taste is on slightly fruitfull, harsh bitterness that is strongly herbal, balanced sweetness, still the end is dry. Medium bodied, medium carbonation. Unfortunately, disappointment, too harsh and not so aromatic as should be.

(Can, 0.33 l - BB 050515, ftom a supermarket, 20140918) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had citricness and pine. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, citricness, grain, creamy toffee and bitterness. Aftertaste was hoppy and bitter. Nice hoppiness but too harsh end result. Not bad though.

(Can, 0.33 l - BB 060515, from supermarket, 20140918) The beer poured deep amber and almost clear. Its head was medium sized and white. Aroma had fruitiness, caramel and pine. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramel, pine, fruitiness and bitterness. Aftertaste was almost acrid and a little bit malty. Aroma was nice but the taste was unbalanced and harsh.

330ml can, many thanks to Finn. Hazy dark orange coloured body with sediments floating around. Frothy, fawn-coloured head leaving lacing rings on the glass. Smell of pine forest, caramel and dusty hops. Semi-dry flavours of pine needles and brown malts. Moderate bitter citrus peels to the finish. Medium to thin bodied. Maybe a tad too dry, otherwise nice and soft (Tromsø 15.09.2014).

50cl can from Alko. BE 28.02.15. Pours deep amber, thin white head, low carbonation. Very malty aroma, bready notes, some sweetness, honey perhaps. Flavor has grain, honey, bread, caramel. Finish is sweet with hints of bread. Some alcohol warmth, but at least now, at 8-10 C not very alcoholic, abv nicely hidden. Better than expected really.

50cl can from Prisma jumbo, Vantaa. Golden color, thick white head. Grainy malty, somewhat herbal aroma. Flavor has grain mostly, hint of metal, slightly harsh. Feels heavy to drink, despite the low abv. Dry, mild bitter.

Can (from Minimani Vaasa). Reddish amber colour with a huge creamy head, which settles quite quickly. Aroma is fruity, some caramel, mild wooden and resiny notes. Flavour is mild grains, quite big on grassy hops as well as mild hayish notes. Balanced.
