Description
Saimaa Brewing Company on yksi Suomen vanhimmista yhä toiminnassa olevista pienpanimoista. Juuremme ulottuvat vuoteen 1995, jolloin ravintoloitsija Pertti Oksa aloitti oluenpanon Mikkelissä 200 litran ravintolapanimossa.

Can (from MiniMani Vaasa). Yellowish golden colour, mall white head. Aroma is fruity, floral and some bready and a bit sweet notes. Flavour is rather similar, but a bit thin. I must say that this time Saimaa did surprise me in a positive way. Refreshing and quite nice balance without any harsh flavours!

A beautiful beer, a reddish brown, a head is big and blond. The nose has malts, some caramell, grass, hint of herbs and red currants. Taste has malts, some red currants, also grassy/herbal bitterness. Almost medium bodied, nice carbonation and not too much. Quite good lager but nothing special, luckily there are also some hops.

Canned (From K Citymarket Kivihaka, Vaasa). Amber colour, small white head. Aroma is grains, some mild metallic notes as well as sweet breadiness. Flavour is bready, metallic, some mild grainy notes as well as some slight wooden notes. I suppose this is somekind of attempt for a oktoberfest/märzen, but has failed quite big time.

A dark copper colour, a head is big and blond. The nose has pine forest, some caramell, slightly aromatic. Taste is quite balanced and dry, some caramell, at least medium bitterness, pine needles, some herbs, cool mints in the end. Almost medium bodied, easy to drink. No bothering nuancees even the fruits are disappeared. Quite nicely hopped beer. Better than Saimaan Brewer’s Special India Pale Ale.

Can 330ml (K-Kamppi)
Hazy orange color, good white head. Aroma has overriped mango and citrus. Light-bodied. Dry with citric bitterness. Piney finish and aftertaste. As it is very dry, feels also more watery than it actually (probably) is. Good bitterness but somewhat unbalanced way. Anyhow probably the most bitter beer from Saimaan I’ve had.

A blond, slightly orange colour, a head is big and blond. The nose has citrusfruits, grapefruits, some fructose, sweet strawberries, also some sweat. Taste is not so fruitful as aroma, it’s milder and not so aromatic. Malts, sour grapefruits, herbs medium bitterness but that is not very aromatic. Quite light bodied, not watery. This beer wasn’t fullfilled my expectation, more fruits and aromatic nuancees would be needed.

Can, 4.6%. OK malty aroma. Clear light copper colour. Big stable white head. The flavour starts off yeasty, turns more malty and dusty. The bitterness is medium strength and quite rough.

Can. Pours clear golden with airy white head. Clear aroma of malt and yeast, with touches of hops. Sweetish flavour of raw malt and yeast, with bitter notes of hops. Bitter aftertaste, with pronounced estery notes. Not bad for the style but just that.
