Begin 2003 kreeg de Beiaard Groep Nederland (met cafés in Amsterdam, Enschede en Hoorn) in Amsterdam de beschikking over de panden en de brouwinstallatie van de voormalige brouwerij Amsterdams Brouwhuis Maximiliaan. Op woensdag 21 mei 2003 werd de brouwerij opengesteld voor publiek. Pas in 2004 zou er ook weer bier voor de verkoop worden gebrouwen in het pand. Het beheer van de brouwerij werd in een aparte stichting ondergebracht: Stichting tot Behoud Amsterdamse Brouwcultuur "De Bekeerde Suster", met als doel het in stand houden van een Amsterdamse brouwerij, het bevorderen van de kennis en interesse voor het brouwen en het ontwikkelen van speciale biersoorten.

De naam van de brouwerij vindt haar oorsprong in het verleden. Het klooster dat in de Middeleeuwen op dezelfde plaats stond was vernoemd naar de Heilige Maria Magdalena van Bethaniën. Vandaag de dag is De Bekeerde Suster op de plek en grond van het Bethanienklooster een geliefd proeflokaal en café-restaurant, met een stoombierbrouwerij waar exclusieve bieren voor de sustercafés van De Bekeerde Suster worden gebrouwen.

Draft at De Bekeerde Suster. Cloudy straw with a medium white head. Aroma of yeast, light citrus, light malt and herbal notes. Flavour is above light sweet and bitter. Above light bodied with soft carbonation.

On tap at ’De Brabantse Aap’. Slightly hazy, reddish amber with a medium large, dense, stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity-grassy aroma of caramel, nuts and pink grapefruit. Sweetish-malty, slightly fruity taste of caramel, nuts, some pear and pink grapefruit, followed by a medium long, rather bitter and dry finish. Medium body, slightly creamy and effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Good body for that abv, very bitter, not too much aroma but quite refreshing. Nice!

On tap at ’De Brabantse Aap’ as ’De Bekeerde Suster Vintrus’. Clear, dark reddish brown with a huge, creamy, stable, tan head. Sweetish-malty, fruity-spicy aroma of caramel, brown sugar, some raisins, clove and hints of coffee. Sweetish-malty, fruity-spicy taste of caramel, overripe banana, prunes and brown sugar, followed by a short, slightly sourish, yeasty-spicy finish with notes of coffee and clove. Medium to full body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very nice!

Sweetish-malty taste of brown sugar, caramel and nuts, followed by a medium long, roasty and slightly bitter finish with some coffee. Medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel, almost flat. Nice bock, easily drinkable.

0.15 l on tap at De Bekeerde Suster. Hazy, very pale, straw yellow with a creamy, white head. Sweetish, yeasty-fruity aroma of banana, vanilla and some citrus. Sweetish, yeasty-fruity taste of banana, vanilla, honeydew and some citrus, followed by a short, sourish and slightly bitter finish. Thin to medium body, slightly creamy and smooth mouthfeel, soft carbonation. A bit thin but quite nice.

Draught @ De Bekeerde Suster. Hazy medium amber colour, small frothy off-white head, mostly diminishing, light lacing. Malty aroma, grainy, raisin, hay. Taste lightto medium bitter and sweet, bit bready, yeast. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste mild bittersweet, drinkable but a rather bland Bitter.

Draught @ De Bekeerde Suster. Hazy pale yellow golden colour, fine thick frothy white head, good retention and lacing. Malty aroma, grain, bit fruity, yeast, straw. Taste medium sweet, light bitter, yeasty. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, aftertaste mild sweetbitter, herbal notes. Solid ale, easy drinker, not very special.
