Re rated due to a change in packaging and formula. Much more citrus in the new formulation with some mango. Better balance with the alcohol more integrated. Can from the LCBO. Pours a mostly clear orange with a generous white head which leaves some nice lace. Nose is very floral hops and grass. Medium to full oily body with average carbonation. Nice and bitter throughout but could use something more to hide the alcohol in the finish.

Bottle from the LCBO. Pours a cloudy orange with minimal head that leaves a bit of lace. Nose is citrus and pine with some light caramel. Good level of bitterness balanced at the front with a light sweetness. Finish is dry and bitter. Medium creamy body with average carbonation. Enjoyable.

Ok, but a little thin on palate. The Szechuan peppercorn didn’t make my tongue numb, to be certain. Just a light, average saison. I liked their paysan a lot more than this. Has some bubblegum. Pours orange clear with not much head or lacing. Tap at Rhino summerfest.

(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto ON, July 7th 2013 as Amarillo Saision) Pours a gold colour with a dense head of white froth, leaving a little lace - some haze, maybe just cold. Aroma has a nice component of amarillo hops with tart citrus, a bit of mango, herbal plus a bit of yeasty saison character, light spice. Flavour is hopped saison, with the fruity and herbal hops joining cereal grains, yeast (but not too funky), some spice. Dry at the finish, light hop bitterness, bit of peppery spice. Body light, medium carb is fairly effervescent per style. Not a mind-blowing saison but the Amarillo dry-hopping helps make it good to enjoy one of.

A hazed golden saison with a thin white head. In aroma, a regular saison with banana, cloves and light pepper. In mouth, good saison with fruity banana, cloves and some hot peppers, smooth and fragrant.

(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto ON, June 20th 2013) Pours a hazed dark gold with a bit of white head, lots of lace. Aroma is fairly citrus-heavy with a mango and slight dankish weed funk, as expected from Citra/Simcoe on the hops bill, and the hops on the nose obliterate any malts. The flavor is again hops-forward, mango and peach initially, round and juicy and fresh. Some bitterness follows but it’s moderate and no real evergreen component, just a slight wet vegetation atop the pit fruit flesh. Slight sweetness from the malt invades at mid-palate but is quickly quashed by dry, moderate hop bittering which seems a bit heavier given the lack of malt backbone. Finishes bone-dry with grapefruit pith. Malt sweetness is hanging around throughout but inoffensive (2-row pale?). This is good stuff, very quenching, I’d be tempted to call it an APA with the hops:malt ratio but quibbles are quibbles.

Can at home, 16th June 2013, bought for LCBO, Waterloo. This is a full bodied, well rounded and American style IPA, very tasty and smooth, great bitterness, balanced with sweet malts and a lingering bitter finish. Excellent

(Draught at Bryden’s, Toronto) Poured a hazy orange with an off-white head, sticky with lots of lace. Aroma of citrus-pine-pot hops with a bit of pit fruit, probably an interplay of the hops with a fairly hefty sweet caramel malt behind. Flavour is fairly hoppy, pine leading the citrus fruit chracters with some resiny character but there is still substantial caramel malt sweetness behind. Bitterness is fairly strong and piney from mid-palate on, though the malt carries through and it never gets terribly dry at the finish. Seemed to be just a bit of alcohol heat. Carbonation moderate, body fairly full and sticky. A pretty good big IPA, not obscene. Didn’t seem to agree with my stomach though - maybe a lot of unfermentable sugar?

Bouteille 750ml.

6-pack from the LCBO. Pours a slight hazy, golden colour with a frothy warm cap that has great retention and some foamy lace. Lots of sediments floating all around. Fresh hop nose with the pine and citrus notes. Not really bitter though. Wet mouthfeel with just a little dryness in the finish. Some fruitiness of oranges, sweetness of caramel and light grass to balance off things. Quite a good, easy-drinking APA, that is not too bitter, but just right.
