Description
Gate City’s name derives from Atlanta, Georgia’s nickname, the “Gate City.” As early as the 1800s, Atlanta has been the center of commerce in the south. Once known as Terminus, Atlanta served as a hub for railroads heading north, to the port of Savannah, south, and ultimately west. A dream realized by co-founders Brian Borngesser and Pat Rains, Gate City Brewing is a humble (& tasty) testament to the power of independence and value of resilience.

Ludicrous Chicken at the Atlanta airport with wifey while we wait on our flight.
Coppery with russet. Lingering skim of tan head.
Gentle caramel nose, saline, just a wink of innocent diactyl.
Red ale roasty, burnt cookie dough.
Nice singe of bitterness. Extra crispy, medium light weight, good residual.
Decent. Chicken wasn't worth the hype.

Shaker pint draft at Champions Sports Bar at the Marriott Atlanta airport hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. The pour is a copper amber with a small light tan head. The aroma is nutty, muted caramel, some toffee and a bit of leafy floral. The taste is a clean balance of the caramel toffee malt and the nuttiness, interesting iced tea malt to the finish. The palate is medium bodied with soft natural carbonation and the nutty, dry finish. Tasty Amber.

Incredibly malty and rich for an amber ale, enough to make me wonder if PDH poured me a Drafty Kilt instead. Lots of caramel, some cocoa, and a firm floral bitterness on the back end. Whatever it was, not bad.

12 oz. can. Pours a clear, dark brown color, almost black, with a small, beige head. The nose is cold brew coffee, walnut, black bread, and cardamom. Grainy and malty, with a mild, drying bitterness. Medium body, with a hard, astringent palate. This is a well made beer, but kinda harsh.

Can from Craft Brewed. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam that dissipates. Huge Citra forward nose with grapefruit, lemon zest and light catpiss notes. Smooth, crisp and clean on the palate. Very refreshing. Well-rounded mouthfeel with more grapefruit and some pine on the palate. Crackery malts. Really nice.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a clear golden copper color with a finger of foam that lingers. Butterscotch, caramel and light pine aromas. Sweet on the palate with booze, caramel, overripe citrus and light butterscotch. Leans a little too far into the boozy and sweet side for my palate. --- Beer merged from original tick of OTP on 17 Nov 2018 at 00:01 - Score: 5. Original review text: Too sweet and boozy for me personally. Touch of butterscotch present as well.
