Dark brown in colour, with a very thick dense tan head. Very rich aroma of yeast, easily the most noticeable quality. Roasted malt is noticeable in the scent as well, but bread (with yeast) is overwpowering. Full-bodied; Tastes of roasted malt, coffee and a bit of chocolate. The aftertaste is almost purely a coffee-bitterness which lasts for a long time! The alcohol is noticeable initially, but fades to show other flavours in the palate. Overall, an average Imperial Stout if you can get past the smell! I bought this 22 ounce bottle from Total Beverage in Thornton (Denver), Colorado.

Bottled. Black with small beige head. Roasty chocolate aroma. Sweet and mild with clean mouthfeel and capuccino finish.

Ramp it up, Left Hand! Surprisingly light for an Imperial Stout, with alcohol very well hidden. Aroma of cheerios (yes, cheerios) and chocolate, with coffee notes as the beer warmed. Flavor also had some cheerio notes, with sweet, chocolatey malts and coffee tones as well. All of the ingredients of a top-notch Imperial are here. However, they have to be bolder! The current version of this stout is being held back from the glory it could achieve. If only Left Hand was brave enough to meet the challenge! Release this monster!

Let me begin by suggesting that this beer be warmed for awhile before consumption (now, I do realize this is unspoken suggestion for all beers, but I must emphasize it especially for this one). Nice copper color, with a thin white/tan head. Taste is sulfuric and bitter when cold, but opens up a bit upon warming, with more assertive malty notes. Just as suggested by the description here! The sulfuric notes in Sawtooth lend it a bit of character.

Thanks to Darkover for the trade. Pours a dark and flat almost black color with a tinge of ruby. Thin beige head and quick lacing. Aroma is lightly bitter coffee and chocolate. Somewhat light-bodied given the look and ABV of it. Roasty with flavors of coffee, grain, and chocolate. The milk is more evident in the sweet finish than anywhere else. Not bad.

Straw gold and lightly hazed. Full thick head. Zesty aroma of banana and perhaps mint. Light wheaty flavor with understated esters. Some banana and spice. Light peppering in the finish. Clean finish. Good take on the style. Man, the surprises in my new re-rates of LH beers never cease! This taste very much like a cross between a wit and a hefeweizen, now. I guess the cloves are getting stronger? Notes: Poured showing a moderately cloudy copper-orange color beneath a weak, fizzy head. But dang, the nose featured a very distinct and pleasing clovey phenolic character, and so suddenly we’ve got some witbier character. The flavor didn’t quite hold up its end of the bargain. The same phenolic components are present, but are buried beneath a sweet malt component that is just a bit too much. I don’t recall ever saying this in a review before, but this beer had too *much* body. A lighter malt profile could have allowed the fermentation character to shine. Instead, we get a muddled melange of indistinct sweet malts, a swirling of phenols, and a strange lemony tartness that lingers well after the finish.

Bright gold with small head. Nicely carbonated, noy overly fizzy. Light hop aroma with barely detectable malts. Nicely balanced clean flavor, although not quite as hoppy as I might want. A little mroe like a Helles than pilsner. Still a fair bitter finish that takes time to develop but lingers nicely, putting an appropriate end on this beer. Again rerating some left hand beers, all very fresh, and these are just disappointing! Its a good thing I don’t rate to style, because I can barely call this a pilsner, it being so pale and lacking a good malt base. Its on the borderline to watery and is just a hairsbreadth above that border. It as a nice hop character, spicy and grassy, in both nose and flavor. Finish is mildly bitter. Straw-gold but with a nice webby white head.

Bottled. Dirty orange brown. Cinnamon aroma. Rugged malt profile, medium body, big gingersnap flavour. Medium bitterness. Liquid cake?
