1 pint bottle into pint glass. Sweet woody BBQ sauce nose. Still copper coloured beer with thin white head. Full body, oily texture. Zingy on the tongue. Taste of sweet liquorice and herbs. Finish has maple syrup, wood, dark fruits. Alcohol well hidden. Smoky notes linger in the mouth for ages. Great contemplative beer, just sip and think.

500 ml bottle from Sparrow. First off, love the up shit's kriek without a paddle joke , kinda genius. It puts a dark reddish-purple colour with a white head. The aroma is tart cherries, dough, grains, and yeast. Similar flavor, tart, yeasty. Average to lively carbonation. An alright kriek.

500ml bottle into shaker. Earthy hoppy nose with orange rind obvious, a little chocolate malt in the background. Very dark brown with thin solid foamy head. Medium bodied with a little zing on the tongue. Taste is crisp and bitter. Finish is grainy and dry with the orange zest becoming more prominent. Beautifully balanced beer with the bitterness of the hops and the rye graininess complemented by the light tangy sweetness of the orange. Can’t find any chillies though.

I liked Jester King’s Gotlandsricka and guessed I got a poor bottle of Long Trip but intend to try it again. Bottle. Translucent golden amber with a white head that’s very soon less than a coat but never disappears. 3+ Intriguing but not entirely convincing aroma is grainy, smoky and fruity - a little like someone’s got tickets on themselves and brought along some pancetta-wrapped apricot halves to a wood-fired barbie but forgotten to take the Glad Wrap off before popping them on. Some honey and oak accompany the medicinal notes. Little wild berries, bracken. One of those aromas you put off deciding whether you like until after a few swigs. Feels alive. Carbonation is low. Sour berries are more to the fore in the taste along with zingy funk and both bracken and oak. Less stone fruit and grain. The smoky and medicinal elements don’t bite quite as much as expected from the aroma. Dry, tingly and herbal at the end. Alcohol is not obvious but it’s a slow drinker. Enjoyed more with some Gorgonzola. Plenty going on, but at the bottom of the bottle I’m still torn between "complex" and "jumble".

Bottle from Sparrow. Unclear golden-orange color. Somewhat fizzy head. Lighter lacing. Heavy spice aroma of coriander and pepper. Wheat and some lemon as well. The flavor is more balanced between the spice, wheat, light salinity, fruity notes, and light tartness. A bit one dimensional on the aroma, but the flavor comes together nicely.

Bottle from Monument in Concord, CA. Pours bubbly gold with a white head. Aroma is salt and something suggesting ginger. Med body or nearly. Flavor is pale malt, some salt, and something lightly peppery/spicy. Could be ginger. Rather clean and tasty. Not exactly refreshing. Interesting and nice to drink.

Bottle from McCoppins Fitzroy. Big smoggy nose with hint of sour notes. Pours cloudy gold. This is a cracking collab. The smoked saison is an unusual combination but the interplay of the astringent sour and bacon-like smokiness is wonderful, while the barrel aging has given a real dryness that works.
