Description
The Exchange is a new premium brewery and tasting room located in Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Old Town heritage district. Although the town is known as the heart of Ontario’s wine country, it is also the scene of a burgeoning craft-brewing industry. With brewing and agricultural roots that stretch back to the late 1700s, Niagara-on-the-Lake is the perfect home for The Exchange’s approach to brewing, which blends traditional and modern techniques and equipment.

We focus on making exceptional craft beers using only the highest quality ingredients, including local Niagara fruits. Our selection includes a range of American styles along with sour and funky Belgian-style beers and ales.

Pours a deeper brown colour with haziness, with lots of beige particles floating all-around. The beige head is small, not lasting long but creates a ring around the collar. Milder balsamic vinegar aromas with hints of coffee, earthiness, chocolate and apples. The earthiness is more felt in the taste as the vinegar is even milder. Tartiness in the short finish. Then again, I get some more vinegary flavours with the sourness from time to time. An interesting play on the old school Oud Bruin and new wild yeast methods.

Wow! This is quite interesting all-around. Nice wine-ish bottle, classy simple label with a great beer inside. Hazy golden colour with a frothy white cap, very good retention and loads of lace. The Brett is there in the aromas, but very well-balanced with the Belgian yeast, golden malts, hints of apples and spices. Some earth, some sourness, some spiciness, some grassiness and some sweetness. Smooth mouthfeel with decent bitterness in the finish all well-blended with the yeast. I really enjoyed this brew as my first from this brewery, and really hope to be able to try more - as available at the LCBO (or will visit soon in this beautiful region).

This saison poured a black colour with a minimal tan coloured head. Nice lacing. Scents include glue, sour ?, fermented cherries?, burnt plastic? First swig was sour with a flavour of an Atari that’s been left on too long. Finish is musty with a little burnt flavour in the background.

This brown ale poured a deep brown colour with a soapy, minimal head. Minimal lacing. Scents include vinegar, glue and antique books. First swig was a punch in the face. Flavours of crabapple, wine vinegar and herbs? Finish is still sour with weak wine flavours lingering. Not for this palate. Hopefully it’s off.
