Tasty brew. Looks nice, with a golden body and a massive head that leaves lacing galore as the brew disappears. Smells citric but with an unmistakable rye tang. The malts provide a grainy, semisweet note, but rye adds a nice depth, providing a tangy, herbal streak that flows nicely into the pure Citra finish. The fade is moderately citric and mild, and the texture is super-smooth, meaning this pint becomes wicked easy to put away.

I’m kinda ashamed that it’s April and I’m just now trying my first official Westbrook beer, especially since this IPA is such a solid creation. The malts are heavier than the description would leave you to believe, giving the beer a nice, bready, caramel-tinged base and providing enough sweetness to counter the huge wave of hops that follows. No clue what kind of hops they may be-- I’m guessing Simcoe, just because I always guess Simcoe (thus meaning one day I’ll be correct.) A stronger nose would be nice, but that’s the only real drawback to this pint, and even that complaint is minor. Good beer.

A hazed blonde weisse with a very thin white head. A lightly lactic aroma, faint cloves. In aroma, a crisp lactic berliner weisse, lightly fruity, refreshing, not bad. On tap at Brewvival, Feb. 26 2011.
