So I like this beer, but I have absolutely no frame of reference here. If Zwickelbier is supposed to taste like bright, clean Lager with a Euro-hop finish, then, well, here you go. This beer starts grainy and apple-laced, but never grows sweet. Rather it stays brisk and dry, letting the mild fruitiness interlace nicely with those tricky Saaz hops. The finish is prolonged yet mild, and the low ABV makes Westbrook Zwickel quite drinkable when trying to pull the Bulldogs through against those damn ratbastard Gators.

Lordy, what a great little brew. Hoppy without being spiteful, amber without being dull, American Bitter gives up an astounding amount of goodness for such a small beer. The hops are first and foremost on the palate, citric, herbal, and moderately bitter, but the IBUs slowly fritter away to nothingness as the beer rolls into a modestly dry, smooth, malt-tinged finish. And, since it’s only four percent, might as well finish the growler. And the next one. And that one you were saving for Timmons.
