There’s really not much more you could ask for in a summer beer. Westbrook Gose is refreshing, sessionable, and incredibly fucking tasty to boot. Tart and tangy as hell, with a noticeable briny bonus on the finish, this beer begs to be consumed as you go about your normal summer day, mowing the lawn, watering the plants, and riding with your brother to the hospital after he’s shot himself in the face with a bottle rocket. (Your brother drinks Bud Platinum and thinks Creed is classic rock, by the way, so your brother is an asshole and deserved the Black Cat to the nostril.) Anyway, the perky carbonation makes sure the beer doesn’t grow cloy or dull, yet doesn’t hamper the lingering tart finish. Mr. Westbrook, sir, please make this brew a regular offering; yeah, sours are trendy and popular and all, but I’ve never seen such an obscure, alternative beer style create such a broad fan base in just a handful of weeks. Great beer.

On tap. Pours an opaque black with a creamy beige head. Only subdued citrusy hops in the nose, the heavy roast dominates. Light body only with a very dry roastiness and a malt bitter finish. Easy going, but I would’ve loved a little more hop character throughout, I find the roast a little too dominant. 120512

On tap at CBC 2012. Black with a nice creamy head. This beer was the greatest suprise at the Copenhagen Beer Celebration. A lot of coffee both in the aroma and taste. Sweet with bitter chocolate, some spices and toffee. Who needs dessert when you can have a beer like this? Really excellent stuff!
