Description
Artzner craft beer has a very long history. It dates back over two centuries. In 1882 to be exact, Pierre Hoeffel founded brewery Perle in Schiltigheim. In 1919: Charles Kleinknecht, brewing engineer, took over the brewery and in 1930, a new brewery was built. Just before the Second World War, production reached 300,000 hectoliters. In 1971, the brewery was closed and the buildings were demolished in the 1980s.
In 2009, Christian Artzner, great-great-grandson of the founder, paid his greatest tribute to this beer by bringing it back to life. In 2015, the Perle brewery officially opened in Strasbourg, at the Plaine des Bouchers, with a brand new production facility and beers "made in Alsace"

Bouteille(Mercí, le professeur!): Copper coloured, big rocky and creamy and stable off-white head; dried fruits, toasted malt, yeast and tinge of alcohol in the mainly sweet nose; moderate sweet flavour, medium bodied; mild to moderate sweet fruity and caramelly finish, a little hoppy (?) tartness is detectable in the sweet-alcoholic aftertaste. Une bière bonne…

Bottled. A hazy yellow beer with a yellowish head. The aroma has notes of citrus fruits, malt, and straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, straw, and citrus fruits, leading to a bitter finish.

Sampled 750 ml. bottle @ “Vini Birre Ribelli 2015”. Now this is a curious one. I didn’t write down a lot of information about this one because I figured that I could find enough information about it online as usual but no such luck here. Matthieu Dubrana & Nicolas Scheidt are actually wine producers from Brussels. At “Vini Birre Ribelli 2015” they were offering a beer, so there you have it. I believe that this is a BA beer with Cantillon lambiek added (I asked about that one), 0.5 % only I believe. It might be also a wine & beer blend but I am just speculating here. As to the origin of beer, No Science is my best guess. Very hazy with no head. Nose is sour wild & very funky wine, white grape, lemon, lightly moldy, very rustic & wild. Taste is quite sour, flat old lemon, very funky, white grape, plenty of funk, some oak, spirit almost, hay, funk,… Flat & a touch watery. Very interesting, rustic & wild. Whatever this is.

at a tasting, thanks, smallish creamy head, hazy deep yellow color, spicey yeasty aroma with nothing from the gewurz, heavy and alcoholic with no noticable grape or vinous traits. An unsuccessfull experiment which should not be repeated.

Bottle sample at a tasting at tomer’s place. Thanks Cris. 2013 bottle. Golden. Aroma of grapes and cardboard. Sweetish and mildly tart flavor with grapes, a cardboard note, and a bit of alcohol.
