Description

Bottle. Oud Bruin: Historical Dutch beerstyle. Welcome change to drink occasionally in the Dutch Pilsner dominated beer-landscape of the 80s...These days harder to find, I think mostly brewed by southern Dutch breweries at this moment. Color: Clear ruby, beige head. Aroma: Caramel, malty, brown sugar. Taste: Sweet, sugary, a lot of malty caramel. Just over medium body, below average carbonation. Over medium sweet, very light bitterness. It's no wonder you see this style less and less often. It doesn't really add anything to the current beer landscape. But it's still fun to drink occasionally. Nostalgia...

Draft at Gulpener Brouwlokaal. Didn't take notes, just enjoyed good beers and good company. What I do remember: Raisins, dark fruit, Whisky, Bourbon towards and at the finish mostly. Medium to over medium body, bit thin but nice.

Draft at Gulpener Brouwlokaal. Didn't take notes, just enjoyed good beers and good company. What I do remember: Sweet and sour. Have had this beer from bottle many many years ago, was very surprised by it's taste back in those days. Nowadays I'm less impressed, but I'm glad I could taste it again after so many years.

Bottle drunk re-watching Stranger Things 3 to prepare for the final season. Medium brown, small head that returns when swirling. Bananas, bready yeast, caramel biscuit nose. Very smooth rich flavor. Not too alcoholic hot, not too sweet, nice hop balance. That's an excellent barrel aging right there!

(Draught at Café DeRat, Utrecht, 14 Aug 2025) Hazy golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, spicy nose with bread, dough, herbs and coriander. Malty, fruity taste with notes of bread, citrus, orange, coriander and peaches. Low herbal bitterness. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Refreshing and well balanced. Quite nice.

‘22 vintage bottle at home, accidentally cellared this one for 2+ years. Pours black with a tan head. Nose is big licorice, some soy sauce, dark chocolate. Taste is some chocolate, light cinnamon somehow and mostly licorice. Medium bitterness, light to medium body. Not terrible, but far from good. Full disclosure, I hate licorice.
