Als onafhankelijke familiebrouwerij genieten we al sinds 1825 van onze vrijheid. De vrijheid om onze eigen koers te varen en alleen te doen wat goed voelt. De vrijheid om de smaak van bier niet af te vlakken, maar te verrijken en continu te zoeken naar vernieuwende smaken. Die vrijheid ervaren wij al 8 generaties en dat proef je terug in onze 16 speciaalbieren. We hebben een sterke band met onze omgeving en zijn graag van waarde voor de wereld om ons heen. Daarom brouwen we bier met water uit eigen bronnen, gebruiken we hop uit eigen hoptuin en komt onze gerst van boeren uit de regio. Dit alles houdt onze ‘voetafdruk’ laag en maakt Gulpener tegelijkertijd tot het enige echte bier van Nederlands bodem.
Onze hop komt ook uit de regio. In Reijmerstok, een dorpje op steenworpafstand van de brouwerij, verbouwt familie Wouters volledig milieuvriendelijk drie hopsoorten die onmisbaar zijn voor onze bieren. Het oogsten van de prachtige hopbellen is elk jaar weer een bijzonder moment. Samen met familie en vrienden van de brouwerij oogsten we dan niet alleen onze hop, de basis van onze karaktervolle bieren, we vieren ook het feit dat we vrij zijn. Vrij om onze eigen koers te varen en alleen te doen wat goed voelt.
In 2026 overgenomen door Grolsch.

(Bottle 30 cl) Dark colden, almost copper coloured beer with a pretty much non-existing head. Filtered and extremely potent, with clearly marked alcohol. Way over the top for a rather thin body. Hard one to finish. 100799

(bottle) Dark brown colour with a big foamy tanned head slowly lacing. Soft sweet malty aroma with notes of butter and wet straw. Slight sweet flavour, distinctive malty taste with caramel and a buttery pleasant aftertaste with a slight bitterness. Well done Oud Bruin, definitely not too sweet and quaffable.

(bottle) Clear amber colour with a medium white head. Sweet malty and fruity (apricot) aroma. Sweet but lingering malty mouthfeel with a medium body. Well balanced finish of spicy hops and a note of honey. Well bound but almost heart warming ABV. Good.

(bottle) Clear golden colour with a medium frothy white head with nice lace. Nice grassy and herbal hop aroma with a tinge of citrus fruits. Light sweet flavour, medium body. Starts with grainy malts combined with a dense fruitiness and ends with a dry and slight bitter hoppy finish. In contrast to the aromatic nose of this brew the palate is rather unpleasant. All in all average but refreshing Pilsener.

(bottle) Clear and pale amber colour with a small creamy white head. Sweet malts aroma with a touch of rotten (citrus-)fruits when it comes right out of the fridge, but getting more and more floral when it warms up. Sweet flavour, sweet malty taste with grapefruit peels and a mediocre short slightly bitter finish with traces of alcohol. Not bad but uninspiring for me.

(bottle) Amber colour with a small frothy white head. Sourish malty nose with a tinge of floral hops and a dense fruitiness. Sweet flavour, medium body. Sweet malty taste with a quite balanced caramel and marzipan finish with a light bitterness. I´m not overwhelmed by this “mixery” style but all in all it´s tasty and even refreshing in spite of its sweetness.

(can) Cloudy yellow colour with a small frothy white head. Strong wheat aroma with citrus fruits, yeast and spicy coriander elements. The taste is initially dominated by wheat turning into a moderate fruity finish with notes of apricots and bananas and slight hints of coriander spice. Aromatic Witbeer, medium bodied, balanced and complex, although my sample came from a can.
