Caldera hopportunity knocks On tap at Imazato with a burger. The aroma is big citrus while the taste is malty biscuit and bitter citrus/pine. A solid IPA but not all that special. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Small rusty-beige head, dissipating over virtually black beer. Bourbon and chocolate in the nose, if not too much vanilla, really. Dark green leaves, dark candi sugar, molasses, alcohol & fusels. Sweet-roasted, rust/slag flavour; liquorice, vanilla, Bourbon, oak. Finish is a bit empty, part of the mouthfeel/texture, and not helped by the candi sugar. Warming up, acquires a light sourish-fruity dimension. Feels spritzy to even fizzy, but it does enlighten the body, that might have turned out rather syrupy. Alcoholwarming, all the same; One of Caldera’s better that I’ve tasted. It has some strange features (certainly for the style) but it’s well worth looking for.

Good yellow, slightly irregular head, over deep dark veiled chestnut coloured beer. Roasted notes, quite sweetish, as raisins, liquorice, praliné. Liquorice, sweet (especially in the finish), bit fruity-yeasty. Finish has some orangezeste, rather rutty too. Feels rather light-bodied, even watery. I find it difficult to estimate this at 8+ ABV... Like watered-down Gouden Carolus, or Mechelsen Bruynen as that was used to be called. Certainly not very high-strung, the label excepted...
