Bottle at home. Thick malty caramel aroma with notes of dried fruits, toffee, prunes, a slight herbal touch and a hint of warming alcohol. Flavour is sweet and light bitter with a bittersweet finish. Body is medium. Quite sweet and a bit warming dried fruity caramel Doppelbock, decent.

2017 version at 7% hopped with Styrian Wolf. Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is bready malt, caramel, stewed ripe fruits, peach, yeasty and some spicy notes, mild citrus. Flavour is above moderate sweet and light bitter. Body is medium. Fairly enjoyable beer, but a bit messy, lacks coherency.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Fairly malty aroma with sweet stewed fruits, caramel toffee, notes of strawberries, softly hoppy, hint of citrus. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and bitter. Body is medium. First thing that strikes me is the caramel malt and stewed fruits, then some hops emerge, but overall this lacks fresh hoppiness, it's a bit stale.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is soft fruity hop with malt, some pine, caramel, fruits are on the ripe and sweet side like was the case with #2. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Body is medium. Drinkable but disappointing as an IIPA, lacks freshness and hop intensity.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is malt, red fruits, notes of strawberry, caramel, stewed fruits. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and mildly bitter. Medium body. More of an Amber Ale profile, pretty similar to #2 and #3, same deficiencies. Not unpleasant as a (forgettable) ale, but there's not much Double IPA to it.

6.4/10 Appearance 6 Aroma 7 Flavor 6 Texture 6 Overall 6.5
Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is modest fruity hop with a sturdy malt profile, picking up oats, grain, notes of pineapple, some citrus, touch of caramel. Flavour is mildly sweet and bitter, body is medium. Lacks NE dankness and it's not that fruity, grains are relatively prevalent. Overall okay but call this an 'Oat IPA' instead.

Bottle from Drankenhandel Leiden. Aroma is pretty grainy with bready wheat, straw, grapes, notes of white wine, green berries. Flavour is a bit tart with a light sourness. Medium body. Shows some promise, but needed a much stronger barrel imprint.
