Malty, earthy, hoppy, with yeasty notes. Surprisingly full-flavoured and complex for Wychwood.

Light, transparent brown colour; touch of coffeeish chocolate, but only a touch; thinnish, slightly gritty body; finishes in an instant. Bad example.

I was wary of the clear glass bottle, but was hopeful because it was a new addition at my local store- thus it couldn't have been exposed too long. Plus, I was enticed my the great artwork and attractively shaped bottle. Well, thats the last time I fall for that. As soon as I popped the crown, I knew I had made a mistake. Peew. Skunking coated my whole mouth, making it nearly impossible to get the flavors. Nothing in the aroma but skunk. Upon close scrutiny, I detected some nice fruity malts and a little bit of hops, but it took alot of effort - the skunking really masked all the good stuff. Really nice looking garnet colored beer, though. And the bottle is even worth keeping and displaying.

Ushers makes this now? Damn English brewing consolidation, hard for us over here to keep track of this stuff. Anyway, great malty old ale - robust, good development of earthy, lightly chewy malt flavours.

Some earthy robustness, but still kind of restrained next to something like Riggwelter. Not only is the beer like a watered down English ale, but the artwork has also been watered down over the years.
