Description
Salopian Brewery first brewed in Shrewsbury in 1995. Founded by Martin Barry on the site of the old Onions Dairy and like many breweries the kit we first brewed on was small and rudimentary at only two barrels. Brewing ceased in late 1997 due to financial problems. Our chairman Wilf Nelson joined the brewery in 1998 – Wilf coming on board gave the brewery much needed stability and vision to move to forward and brewing recommenced in January 1998.
Slowly, as cash flow permitted, we upgraded our brewing kit and replaced rusty dented vans with slightly less rusty dented vans. It was the onset of brewing a more eclectic range of cask ale, whilst embracing both traditional styles and those of our locality. 2014 saw the brewery make its final move – we hope! – to the village of Hadnall on the outskirts of Shrewsbury.

Cask @ Salopian, the pub. Clear amber with an off-white head. A soft opal fruit sweetness courses through alongside a good malt body, gentle bitterness. Pintworthy cask.

440ml can from Salopian, the pub. Quaffed at home. Hazed gold appearance, moderate white head. Vibrant fruity nose. Juicy grapefruit, lemon and marmalade comes through well with a brisk bitterness. Good amount of flavour for 4.5% whilst staying sessionable.

This is another of those “I can’t believe I’ve not rated this before” beers. Cask at Picture House, Stafford, but have drunk it many times before. Pours lemon yellow with a small white head and excellent lacing. There’s citrus and floral hops in the aroma. Pretty much the same in the mouth where it starts off sweet and juicy but has some sharpness come through later. This is decent – but not particularly exciting.
