Dark brown color. Light smell of dirty water, some chocolate and some roasted malt. Mild roasted malt flavor, without wheat character; dusty roastiness, providing some bitterness too. Below par.

2010-03-26, draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver, 5.5% ABV, 5-4-6-2-11=28
Cloudy dark brown color, with creamy head. Very light caramel and banana aroma. Reasonable body strength; correct flavor of roasted malt and caramel, correct bitterness, with a drier feeling in the end; the final has roasted nuts too. Simple.

Draught at St. Augustine’s, Vancouver
Dark mahogany color; thin creamy head, nice lace. Light aroma of roasted malt. Weak body, light dry caramel flavor, possibly no trace of wheat; correct bitterness. Quite poor.

Tap. Neutral nose. Pretty copper, offwhite cream. Lightish body for a bock, sparkly mouthfeel. Flowery hops, not much malt sustenance, watery, more of a pale ale really.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours dark brown. Aroma of sweet malts and chocolate. Flavour of subtle roasted malts and some sweetness. Quite nice.

Tap at Alibi :Black,creamy lasting beige head.Neutral nose.Nice chocolate profile, good roast bitterness in finish. Great Belgian lace. Very nice

Bottle (many thanks to joss!): Pitch black, stable tanned head;complex nose: ashes, roasted malt, caramel, tobacco and hops; fat bitter-sweet flavour, full bodied as expected; long and lingering finish, repeating tobacco, leather, ashes and dried fruits. A gem.....

(bottle, 35.5cl, thanks to Jonas !) Pitch black colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Sweet toasty and smoke-malty aroma with hints of dried fruits, raisins and notes of ashes and sweat. Sweet flavour with a tinge of roasty bitterness, full bodied with a smooth carbonation. Strong and pretty complex malty taste with toasty and smokey notes, accompanied by caramel, sweaty leather and hints of vanilla; sweet and moderately roasty bitter strong malty finish with a long tail of hops, caramel and character. Very tasty and moreish brew. 24.III.10

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy golden. Aroma of hops, grass, pine and citrus. Flavour is fruity hops, kind of peppery, with an overall smooth palate. Not bad.
