Description
Rogue Ales was founded in Ashland, Oregon in 1988 by Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser, and Bob Woodell. Construction of the first brewpub began in June 1988 in Ashland. The 10 bbl brew system was set up in the basement with a 60-seat Pub above. The Brewery and Pub opened in October 1988 to moderate success and soon, the company started looking to expand. In February 1989, construction began on the Bay Front Brew Pub in Newport, Oregon; it opened in May1989. Rogue now has four brewpub locations in Oregon: Newport, Astoria, Portland and Independence, and a fifth at the Rogue Nation World Headquarters in Newport.

The very first beer rating I entered on Ratebeer when I joined back in 2005 was for Rogue Dead Guy Ale. I was sad to see them go under last year though we’d very seldom seen anything new around here from Rogue for the last ten or fifteen years.
Not that any of that made it a great idea to buy an imperial IPA that had to be at least a year old when I spotted it at a liquor store recently, but it’s very likely the last Rogue beer I’ll have.
Anyway, it pours copper colored with a one finger head. Smells of hop resin, citrus, and malt. It tastes of citrus and pine accented hops with solid caramel malt. It’s pretty good though a bit of a muddle and I think it likely the hops have dulled somewhat over the last year. Moderately bitter. Still good.

Can. Orange citrus aroma with notes of pineapple, passionfruit, mango, tangerine, grapefruit and some pine resiny hops. Pours hazy golden-orange colored with a large white head that has excellent retention and some lacing. Starts with juicy passion fruit, orange, pineapple and mango flavors. Finishes smooth but a touch dry and pithy with tangerine, grapefruit and pine resiny hop flavors. Still pretty good even though it’s a bit aged.
