Description
Rogue Ales was founded in Ashland, Oregon in 1988 by Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser, and Bob Woodell. Construction of the first brewpub began in June 1988 in Ashland. The 10 bbl brew system was set up in the basement with a 60-seat Pub above. The Brewery and Pub opened in October 1988 to moderate success and soon, the company started looking to expand. In February 1989, construction began on the Bay Front Brew Pub in Newport, Oregon; it opened in May1989. Rogue now has four brewpub locations in Oregon: Newport, Astoria, Portland and Independence, and a fifth at the Rogue Nation World Headquarters in Newport.

Pint can, 2025 vintage. Caramel malt aroma with notes of bready malt, nutty malt, vanilla, oak and whiskey as well as some booze. Pours clear copper colored with a thin tan head that has decent retention and excellent lacing. Starts with caramel malt, bready malt and oak flavors as well as having a medium body and smooth mouthfeel. Finishes smooth with nutty malt, vanilla and whiskey flavors as well as having a good amount of warming booze at the very end. Excellent as always. Rogue, you will be missed!

Dark brown with moderate light brown head. Cherry, chocolate malt, and hay aroma. Mildly sweet cherry, chocolate malt, and mildly bitter dry hay flavor. Light body. Looks like this will be my last Rogue beer.

19.2 oz can. Pours a clear, golden color, with big, foamy, head. The nose is resin, cloves, lavender, orange zest, and caramel. Sweet and malty, with a light, bright bitterness. Medium body, zest and grainy. Pleasant and easy.

Bone dry, with notes of unsweetened chocolate and a little cascara backed up by hints of anise and coffee, finished off with a deep, bracing bitterness. Might be the last new beer I ever tick from Rogue, which sucks royally.

Bottle. BB 1/23 but may not see them again. Clear deep reddish brown with a beige head that fizzes away. Aroma of brown sugar, cherries, old lemons. Lowish carbon, a little slippery. Medium sour with woody and forest floor notes, stewed fruit, old lemons. Vale.

US Pint can at EDP 2025, at the IPC mall, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. Poured a murky medium amber colour with a lasting frothy off-white head. The aroma is unsurprisingly honey and blackcurrant. The flavour is moderate to light sweet, with a smooth, fresh, blackcurrant, light sweet honey palate, medium bodied with soft carbonation.

First Rogue beer I’ve seen in a nearby store in a long time. Not a big loss to me necessarily, I had not been impressed previously. But this is an imperial IPA and that counts for something. My snifter acquired at Great Heights Brewing several years ago is ready to go. The 12 oz can pours nicely, I see a clear dark gold body followed by an appropriate head of absolutely white foam. And the smell is pleasant enough. Nectarines, hops and grain, a touch of sweetness perhaps. A drink ultimately and I am rather surprised. Apricots, crackers, pine, maybe some pineapple sweetness and cardboard. Bitter and sweet appear to be mostly balanced. And a nice sensation too. Good beer. But perhaps my last one from the brewery if what I'm hearing about bankruptcy and closings are accurate.
