Description
Rogue Ales was founded in Ashland, Oregon in 1988 by Jack Joyce, Rob Strasser, and Bob Woodell. Construction of the first brewpub began in June 1988 in Ashland. The 10 bbl brew system was set up in the basement with a 60-seat Pub above. The Brewery and Pub opened in October 1988 to moderate success and soon, the company started looking to expand. In February 1989, construction began on the Bay Front Brew Pub in Newport, Oregon; it opened in May1989. Rogue now has four brewpub locations in Oregon: Newport, Astoria, Portland and Independence, and a fifth at the Rogue Nation World Headquarters in Newport.

Tap at FOB, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark blonde, partially transparent, with fine white foam. Aroma is malty, toffee. Body is average, with moderate carbonation, giving somehow the illusion of being a low-alcohol beer. Taste is medium bitter, with a nice malty sweetness behind. Final is a little longer than average.

Orangeish amber colour with a tiny off-white head. Aroma is blackberries, some mild funk with a bit wooden tones as well. Flavour is plum, blackberries, some raspberries, funk and mild wooden tones to it. Forest strawberries in aftertaste.

A dense, tan head on a near black body. A powerhouse nose features chocolate fudge, a hint of raspberry and coffee. Dense, sticky and slick, this is a flagship imperial stout. The raspberry jumps out early, then blends and mingles with the chocolate, butter, vanilla and whiskey undertastes. Hints of coffee, nutmeg and wood round it out. A Rogue hall of famer.

A thin white head (soft can, this might be an aberration) on a golden body. A solid nose features a range of tropical fruit, a touch of pine and ample caramel malt. Taste has a mixture of fresh fruity tastes, a slight resin, orange peel bite, caramel malt and a light spiciness. Tasty and drinkable indeed.

A brilliant looking brown, with a full light tan head and a deep toffee coloured body. Hazelnuts front and centre in the taste profile. Toffee, butter, plums, cereal, biscuit malt and coconut add fresh additional elements. A really nice blend with a strong nut lead, which I love in a Brown Ale.

Nose features big roasted malts with caramel, ripe dark berries, biscuit malt and alcohol. Rich copper colour with a well laced fluffy tan head. This is a beast of a beer. Rich roasted malt, toffee, fruity hops underneath , almonds and dark berries. The body texture is thick and rich. All elements are well integrated. A gem of an East Coast Imperial. None better.

Another bit of XS craftsmanship from Rogue. Complex and well blended, this XS features cocoa, molasses, roasted malt, some licorice and coffee. The rolled oats help extend the taste and thicken up the body. The 88 IBUs are competing with a lot of taste and alcohol, but they make their presence felt as the taste continues. An expensive rarity north of the border, but nice when you have something to celebrate!

Light copper colour with a soft off-white head. Light citrus and rich malt nose. Another tasty IPA from Rogue, featuring a variety of hop accents - tropical fruit, citrus, pine and some orange. Subplots in the taste line include honey, biscuity malt and touch of pepper. a nice medium body and mid-range carbonation help bring out and sustain the taste.
