Description
The brewery was founded by Phil and Cynthia “Scuttle” Bannan in 1996 with a 20 barrel system in the brew house, two 20 barrel fermenters and one 20 barrel bright tank. Since then our capacity has grown and we have broadened our product line to include more than 20 styles of hand-crafted ales and lagers.
After more than 20 years Scuttlebutt Brewing Company remains family owned and independent.

Since the beginning Scuttlebutt beers have been brewed in Everett with the Northwest’s finest ingredients – barley from Vancouver, Washington, hops from the Yakima Valley, a proprietary yeast from Odell, Oregon and some of the nation’s finest drinking water from the Spada Reservoir in the Cascade Mountains. Our beers are clean, balanced and have been brewed with care for over 17 years.

On cask at The Bitter Tasting Room, pours a murky diarrhea brown with a small beige head - something was wrong with the cask, hence the colour. Aroma brings out loads of caramel malts, intense resinous hops, and some dark fruits. Flavour brings out loads of intense resinous hops, bone dry piney hops, and just enough caramel malt to back. Loads of depth to this, with a wonderfully dry mouthfeel. Excellent stuff.

650 ml bottle. Pours a dark clear amber with light head and moderate carbonation. Very light aromas of pine and caramel. Certainly not bold. Flavors of bitter hops - leaning towards the Golding. Not much else other than a bitter finish. Disappointing.

Honey and pineapple nose, with lesser pine notes. Hazy amber, thick yellow head. Grapefruit peel and pine flavor, not IPA strength, but hoppy for an amber. Intermittent teasing of honey to give the illusion of balance, which is nice, but this is unmistakably hop forward. Medium body, easy carbonation. Another solid pale ale masquerading as an amber, not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Bottle - Oddly medicinal and sweet. Clear copper with a decent off white head. Very sweet and a bit of pine. Very long finish. Not bad if a little sweet, but the nose is just so odd.

12oz bottle pours with a clear amber body and copper edges supporting a dirty white head of foam. The modest aroma offers up malts, some roasted malts, muted pine hops and then a mild mix of earthy tea hops, slight citrus hard candy note and fruity esters. Smells alright. The taste is similar with pine and earthy tea like hops that are having a good time together and deliver a pleasing load of hop bitterness. Behind these hops are bits of citrus hops, roasted malts and a biscuit malt note. Pretty darn nice hop forward session brew.

Bottle from Belmont Station. Pours light, translucent copper with a slight beige head. Aroma of resin. Med + body. Flavor is heavy, juicy hop nearly eclipsing a decent caramel backbone. I’m getting significant hop burn. Flavor is strong mix of citrus/resin and the malt. Hop heads should enjoy the bitter, bitter, hoppy finish. I do.
