Description
Coalition Brewing was born out of a serendipitous chance encounter between owners Kiley Hoyt and Elan Walsky. Both began as home brewers and received formal brewing education through the Siebel Institute in Chicago.
Their love of beer and the brewing process is the impetus for the Coalator Program, which encourages local home brewers to brew their recipes in the brewery and serve them at the pub.
Coalition Brewing prides itself on highly balanced, drinkable beers.
Admin Note: Coalition closed in 2019 after being purchased by Gorges Beer Co.

Tap at BCS. Interesting, more fruity than malty but bit of sweet malt lurking. Honey, peach and mango. Not how I expected, but I like it.

Keyaki. Alright but a little boring. Wheat is light and creaminess is more dominant. Disappointing after the beers at the brewery, but I guess this has come a fair way.

Tap at Grub. Taste is nice enough, light citrus, little bit of lime, some lemon. Quite easy drinking, but maybe lacking a spark. Quite spritzy. Something grainy and almost yoghurt like. 22oz bottle pours out hazy golden topped with a white head. Nose is citrus hops forward and a nice light bread malt. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts citrus hops.

On tap at ABV. Pretty interesting that CBD is being put in beers now. I wonder if this is legal elsewhere? Pours a dark brown black color with a medium tan head. A big sweet nose. Chocolate, lactose, sweet light roast, not sure if the CBD contributes to flavor. Quite nice.

Bottle from New Seasons Market. Pours out dark brown, still kind of clear, light coming in around the edges. Small cap of finely beaded beige head. Aroma is mostly Porter roast grains, very light, not much of the maple comes through. Taste then is a little bit weird, kind of flat, burned. Weak coffee, cheap cola. Not that enjoyable.

On tap at Baileys Taproom, Portland, Oregon. Pours a clear amber colour with small off-white head. Fruity aroma with tropical fruits, caramel, grass and diacetyl. Lots of grassy hops in the flavor with hay, grapefruit, pine and subtle diacetyl. Has a slick mouth feel, medium body and heavy bitterness. A very hoppy IPA with some diacetyl disturbing my experience.

Draft 10 oz pour at Hop N Grape. First visit. A very cloudy, but bright golden pour. Plenty of active fizz head. A lot of carb with this. Very subtle aroma that matches the description. Lime and salt. Straw grains, with a lime juice that makes this pretty refreshing. A moderate salt that makes you drink more of it. Stinging carb. Margarita reminder in this beer, as expected. Fun beer, and very easy drinking.
