Description
Coalition Brewing was born out of a serendipitous chance encounter between owners Kiley Hoyt and Elan Walsky. Both began as home brewers and received formal brewing education through the Siebel Institute in Chicago.

Their love of beer and the brewing process is the impetus for the Coalator Program, which encourages local home brewers to brew their recipes in the brewery and serve them at the pub.

Coalition Brewing prides itself on highly balanced, drinkable beers.

Admin Note: Coalition closed in 2019 after being purchased by Gorges Beer Co.

Bomber shared at a tasting, 11/3/14. "Oud School" label. Pours a hazy red with a thin frothy off-white head. Decent head retention. Aroma of cherries and mild acetic funk. The taste is harsh acetic notes and dark cherries. Medium bodied, high carbonation, moderate lingering tartness.

On tap at Saraveza for the 5th IIPA fest, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out harsh coffee, pot hops, and some vegetal notes. Flavour is very harsh, with burnt espresso, vegetal notes, and sharp alcohol. Very harsh and burnt, but somehow quite nice. Interesting beer that is somewhat drinkable.

On tap at Saraveza for the 5th IIPA fest, pours a cloudy blonde with a small white head. Aroma reveals big notes of bubblegum upfront, with light hops in the background. Flavour isn't as bubblegum-forward thankfully, though it does have a big gum notes, followed by piney hops, and candied sweet malty notes. Not very good at all - way too sweet and bubblegum-y.

On tap at PIB, pours a hazy opaque dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma reveals big bourbon notes, followed by dark fruits and candied sugar. Flavour is very well-constructed, with a great balance of bourbon and dark caramelized fruits. Well-balanced barley wine without being too boozy or sugary. Very nice beer.

On tap at the brewery. I can see how people don’t like this, but I like it! Pours a clear yellow color with a medium white head. A smooth grain and honey nose. The flavor is mellow, earthy grains, a bit of glue, light bitterness. Yeah this is generic and not particularly a wheat beer, but it’s fun.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear amber color with a medium white head. A smooth clean caramel nose with some floral hops. The flavor is similar: perfume, clean dry earthy caramel toasted malts, some sweetness, berries. Nice beer, drinkable.

On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear copper color with a small white head. Wow. A huge bourbon nose. The flavor has transformed from a IPA with loads of mellowness with a big bourbon beast: vanilla, barrel, but sugary hot bourbon. Very nice. Some candied fruit.

On tap at the brewery. A cloudy dark amber color with a small white head. A big fruity candy nose, heat. The flavor is caramel, burnt caramel really, sugary sweet fruit, jelly, heat. Tasty big beer.
