Description
Coalition Brewing was born out of a serendipitous chance encounter between owners Kiley Hoyt and Elan Walsky. Both began as home brewers and received formal brewing education through the Siebel Institute in Chicago.
Their love of beer and the brewing process is the impetus for the Coalator Program, which encourages local home brewers to brew their recipes in the brewery and serve them at the pub.
Coalition Brewing prides itself on highly balanced, drinkable beers.
Admin Note: Coalition closed in 2019 after being purchased by Gorges Beer Co.

On tap during Zwicklemania. Pours a clear copper color with a medium white head. A big coffee aroma. This reminds me of the Ft. George Coffee IPA: it’s almost all dry coffee. I do get some citrus, but the overwhelming flavor is dry roasted coffee, vanilla. Good. I’m not the biggest coffee guy though.

Bomber bought somewhere. Pours a dark copper color with a small white head. A sweet nose of caramel, toasted malts, some maple maybe. The flavor is similar: maybe some roast, really toffee and toasted malts, sweet maple. A tad thin. Overall, good.

On tap at Bailey's, pours black with a medium creamy tan head. Aroma of chalk, lactose, and roasted malt. Flavour brings out rich roasted malt, some lactose-like milky sweetness, and a touch of cocoa. Extremely milky-bodied, creamy and smooth on the palate. Wonderful impie.

Bomber. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium light tan head. A light caramel and toast nose. The flavor is light bitter hops, some caramel, maybe sweet toffee, pretty dry overall. Light, pretty nice. A bit of fruity hops, medium orange peel in the finish.

Called an Imperial Session ale. Tastes hoppy and sprucey like an IPA. Smells citrusy and evergreeny like an IPA. Lighter in alcohol. Cloudy dark orange with a white head like an IPA. This is an IPA.

Gorgeous aroma of fresh hops and evergreens. Flavour is a true pale, hop and malt well balanced with a lean to the hop side. Long hop finish.

Bomber. Pours a clear dark copper color with a large white head. A light biscuit, honey and lemon nose. Pretty simple: clean caramel, earthy malt, some bitter lemon and oranges. Decent. Nothing stands out.

Draft at Coalition Brewing in Portland, OR on 4 June 2013. Pours a slightly hazy golden colour. Floral hop aromas, the flavour is not as strong, but there is definite hop bitterness. No show-stopper, but pretty drinkable as a session pale.
