Description
Modern Times is a 30bbl production brewery and tasting room in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Modern Times is named after a beautifully crazy utopian community founded in 1850 (see “Modern Times was..” for the full explanation), and (almost) all of our beers are named after real utopian experiments or mythological utopias.

22oz (thx, Brian S.!) @ Ryan's shared with Farees and Phill.
Aroma: nice American oak, a lot of marshmallow, coconut and vanilla.
Taste: along the same lines, nicely integrated flavours. Finishes with sweet black chocolate bitterness.
Overall: nice one.

2nd Portland made bottle, hehe 😁

Poured from 650mL bottle. Near black with almost no beige head. Marshmallow, coconut, and vanilla upfront, feint bourbon barrel - adjunct heavy. Good, but not an outstanding MT.

22oz (thx, Brian S.!) @ Ryan's shared with Farees and Phill.
Aroma: heavy, sweet, a lot of barrel, dark fruits and some molasses.
Taste: along the same lines, a lot of dark fruits, moderately sweet and thick. Finishes with noticeable charred barrel notes and dark fruits.
Overall: this is an interesting one. It has a lot of charred barrel from the bourbon barrel part and fruity notes from the armagnac part. Good one.

Poured from 650mL bottle. Very dark brown with minimal beige head. Very nice balanced armagnac character with an underlying charred bourbon note, touch of dried fruits, tasty.

Citrus and tropical fruity notes of grapefruit and passionfruit, orange and a touch of peach, some citrus peel, grass, sweet malty backing with a light bitter hoppy close. Easy drinking affair.

Dark brown. No head. On the nose, blueberry, peach, rich chocolate. This has a lot of barrel, with a blueberry note, peach, vanilla, brown sugar. The character really comes together, the fruit notes are excellent. The balance, fuck. So good.

22 oz. bottle, pours jet black, no head. Nose has plenty of apple brandy barrels, graham cracker, brown sugar, a touch of cinnamon, and vanilla. Flavour is super rich and integrated, with tons of blackberry puree, peach brandy, some graham cracker, brown sugar, and a hint of cinnamon. Rich, but integrated and balanced. Wonderful.

650mL bottle. Pours black with a minimal head. Roasted malts, dark sugars, molasses, cinnamon, and a great brandy character on the nose. Flavour has deep roasted malts, molasses, cinnamon, vanilla, graham crackers, sugary blueberries, and a great peach brandy character. This is excellent; the adjuncts are well incorporated with the base and the barrels bring it home.

22oz (thx, Cam B. and Josh!) @ Phill's shared with Brian and Alex. I wasn't even aware that the Portland location was brewing anything, especially BA stouts.
Aroma: quality American oak, sweet, brown sugars.
Taste: along the same lines, noticeably boozy.
Overall: pleasant.
