Description
Modern Times is a 30bbl production brewery and tasting room in the Point Loma neighborhood of San Diego. Modern Times is named after a beautifully crazy utopian community founded in 1850 (see “Modern Times was..” for the full explanation), and (almost) all of our beers are named after real utopian experiments or mythological utopias.

Can from the local Grocery Outlet. Pours gold with a monstrous white head that laced. Aroma of grass, perfume/floral and pine. Med body. Bready but fairly dry. Moderately bitter. Flavor is the aroma with a bit of citrus. Quite different flavor for a pils IMHO.

Dark brown. No head, nice and oily. On the palate, it's got a nice fruitiness, a burly rye character, umami, rich alcohol, lots of barrel. That fruitiness and rye are really nice accents to the base, which has demerara and soy sauce undertones. Excellent as usual.

22 oz. bottle, pours black, almost no head. Nose is divine, with a wonderful rye whiskey barrels, complex-as-hell sugars, molasses, some cocoa, and dark fruits. Flavour is super rich and complex, with intense dark fruits, spicy rye whiskey barrels, deep sugars, and molasses. Full of dark dried fruits, spicy rye, and wonderfully sticky, complex sugars on the finish. Remarkably constructed as usual. Fantastic.

650mL bottle. Pours black. Intense roast, dark molasses, and rye barrels on the nose; a gentle smokiness. Flavour has a rich roasted malt base that's well-integrated with intense rye barrels; a gentle smokiness and thick molasses as well. Body is thick. This is excellent, the rye barrels come through very well.

Dark brown, no head. Lots of cacao nibs, rich, some alcohol, hazelnuts, date molasses, toasted almonds. This has a lot going on. On the palate, it's a lighter body than I'd expect, but still full. Lots of rich dark chocolate, alcohol, good complex bourbon, light vanilla, hazelnuts again. The finish has a whack of heat, and wood, with rounded chocolate. This just really comes together beautifully. Excellent.

22oz (thx, Brian S.!) @ Phill's shared with Alex.
Aroma: amazing mix of American oak and chocolate, moderately sweet, bold.
Taste: brown sugar bomb, a toasted barrel, moderately thick, some boozy notes.
Overall: nice one, but kinda on the thinner side 🙂

Sweet and vinous with some roastiness and barrel notes, hints of dates, figs, vanilla, slightly fruity and chocolate. A bit heavy.
