Description
The Budelse Brouwerij (Budels Brewery) is a family business that still values the traditions that have guided the brewery for centuries now. It's been at the very heart of the village of Budel in Brabant since 1870. Founded 150 years ago by Gerardus Arts as Brouwerij de Hoop (the Hope Brewery). Today, the fourth generation of the Arts family is at the helm and we are just as committed to the brewing as our ancestors.

Tap. Black with off-white head. Sour fruits, acidic with some weird chemical taste. Light toasted grains with some ash. Mainly sour with light sweet touch and herbal bitter astringent finish. Light to medium bodied. Weird stuff, not really into it.

30 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Het Natuurhuis. BBF 04/2015. Tasted right after their Pilsner Bio which I suppose is the “base” beer. Carbonated water is the first ingredient on the list for this beer, wait wth? Hazy lemon, juice, lemonade citrus, makes me think of a carbon tablet, very fizzy, little white head. Smells like children aspirin & cheap lemon lemonade. Taste is aspirin, lots of lemon concentrate, citrus flavoured children’s aspirin, carbon tablet, carbonated water, light mineral. Chemical body. This is like carbon tablet citrus flavoured children’s aspirin dropped into a pilsner with a lot of lemon concentrate & some detergent. Odd. Recommended to people who are really into lemon concentrate & aspirin I suppose.

30 cl. bottle @ home. Procured from Het Natuurhuis. BBF 04/2015. Clear sparkling golden, soapy white head. Lemon-like, sticky nasty pale lager grains,, touch decay & rain water, light pale lager bitter. Chemical, soggy paper, bitter artificial lemon, pale grains that coat the inside of your mouth, lingering wash powder taste, bitter nasty chemical, oddly powdery, mineral carbonated water (in a bad way) feel & taste to it all. It does have character but not a character that I am really into. More character than the regular pale lager for sure, sort of agreable.

On tap at In de Wildeman. Almost black colour, beige head. Aroma is sweet, liquorice/star anise (drop), light malty, some chocolate. Flavour is sweet, malty, some star anise, cocoa, just a very light bitterness in the finish. Light-bodied. It’s not bad, but too sweet/lacks hops to be a good Schwarz.

Blonde session beer clearly inspired by the nearby genre of Kölsch, golden blonde colour, soft fruity taste, bit sweetish, medium carbonation, long hoppy finish.
