This beer pours a dark brown color with a medium creamy light beige head that recedes steadily. Strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt and raspberry. Light-bodied with flavors of mildly tart raspberry, malt and a bit of chocolate. The finish is lightly tart with a short raspberry aftertaste. Slightly above average overall.

Great American Beer Festival 2012. Black. Heavy palate. Sweet aroma with some red wine. Caramel and dried fruit in the flavor with a vinous quality. This is good.

Poured up at the Denver Airport location into an ice cold glass, darn-it! when will I learn that this WILL be coming in frigid glass wear? It has a clear copper ice cold body with thin gold edges and a thin tan head of foam. The aroma doesn’t have much to offer due to the serving temperature. As it finally warmed a touch I got some citrus hops as well as some earthy to vague bitter resiny hop notes too. The taste starts pretty smooth with a mix of sweet malts and malt sweetened citrus hops. It then moves toward a moderate level of citrus hop bitterness that rides the mild sweetness into the finish. As it warms I’m getting soft caramel malts or maybe its biscuit malts that seem out of place and muddles the experience. Is that why they serve it so cold?
