Draft at the Royale - St. Louis. Pours clear, rich brown with a tight, creamy off-white head. The nose has lightly toasted brown bread, hints of caramel. Light to medium sweet flavour with subtle earthy and leafy notes, more caramel, bready malts. Light bodied, creamy. Simple finish with more soft earthy bitterness, toffee, brown bread, caramel. An easygoing mild.

Rating #3,700. Nonic pint draft at the brewery in Columbia, Missouri. The pour is a slight haze copper orange with a smallish off white head. The aroma is caramel, herbal floral and crystal malt. The taste is the caramel crystal malt along with the herbal floral hops. The finish has raw a malt dirtiness that detracts. As the beer warmed, there was a decent shot of diacetyl. The palate is medium bodied with soft carbonation and the mineral crystal malt finish. Just OK.

Bottle as a trade extra. Pours rich opaque black, medium tan creamy head, dissipates slowly, good lacing. Aroma is rich coffee, cocoa, mocha indeed, roasted malts, Flavor is medium sweet and medium plus bitter, rich mocha dominates, along with strongly roasted malt and lingering bitterness. Full body and creamy mouthfeel. Light coffee acidity. Tasty.
