San Juan del Sur Cervecería, Avenida Mercado, San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
Description
While traveling together on a number of surfing trips to Nicaragua during their college years, longtime friends and craft beer lovers Brendan DeBlois and Matt Greenberg recognized a dire need for freshly made craft beer in the “land of lakes and volcanoes.” The idea was hatched to bring craft beer to Nicaragua by building a brewpub in Nicaragua’s most famous beach town, San Juan del Sur. After leaving behind jobs in the U.S., they brought on board a third partner, Bobby Hottensen, and together worked on fine tuning a business plan. With the help of friends at Cisco Brewers in Nantucket, MA., Brendan worked alongside award-winning Brewmaster Jeff Hormer to create the recipes for “The Boom” IPA, “Nicarao” wheat beer, and “Popoyo” passion fruit ale. In early 2013, Brendan, Matt and Bobby moved down to Nicaragua to pursue the dream.

Pours hazy golden with a fluffy white head. Aroma of Pilsen malt. Taste has heavy coriander, caramel, some grass. Palate has lingering yeast, more grass on the nose. Good. #2000!

$3 Single from Appalachian. Mojito glass @home. Clear, if a bit dull, medium gold, extra stick gold pour. Sticky, caramelized, sweet veg nose. Soft, extra frothy, corn sweet, tea tannins, too sweet. I don't hate it, but can only tolerate the brew if it's ice cold.

Massive 12 oz can picked up at Hop and Hound, because why not. Fun to try an international lager that isn't exactly as it sounds. Lofs of bready and earthy malts to this. Creamier body. Some late cardboard. Gentle grassy character late with a moderate sweetness. Can describes it as the perfect craft pilsner. While I can't take it that far, I can say that this was moderately enjoyable and exceptionally unique. Fun try for me.
