Clear amber/copper coloured body with a thinnish tan head. Aroma of peaches, fresh hops, caramel, raisins and figs. Medium to Full-bodied; Super sweet maltiness with a nice toffee flavour and subtle hops in the background. Aftertaste shows alcohol lingering with malt, sweetness and a fair amount of hops-still! Overall, a nice sweet eisbock, great to try-very pleased to pick this rare one up a while ago! I sampled this 75 cL bottle purchased at the LCBO on Queen’s Quay in Toronto, Ontario on 27-September-2004.

This Eisbock pours a rich dark red colour with a creamy off white head. The scents include apples and pears, caramel malt and a little sugar and alcohol. Initial sip is almost creamy with a slight wine taste to it almost like fermenting fruit. The finish is slightly alcoholic with a little waterness to it. The palate has lingering malt and a small amount of bitterness to it.

This Ale pours a deep amber with a creamy light brown head. The nose has a little alcohol and lots of malt. Maybe a little raisin or grape scents along with a hint of coffee. Fist taste was mild with a nice amount of carbonation and tons of malt. Slightly sweet with a slight roasted flavour. The finish was slightly grassy with a hint of caramel. Great beer all around.

This beer is a dark amber color with a medium thin light beige head and decent lacing. The aroma is a little fruity (sour apple) with a pinch of hops. Medium-bodied and tart, with flavors of malt, molasses and sour fruit. Very little hops in the flavor or finish. As for the finish it is lightly bitter and short. Overall this beer is not very impressive.

2003. Brown hue with white foam. Sweet aroma with some fruitiness. Lightly roasted malt tatse, with some soody overnote, some vanlilla, and a nice shapr bitterness near the end. Much less body than in previous years. A bit of a let down. 6-3-6-3-14 2004: Light brown and sickly cherry orange with a thick off-white head. Light sweet malt with caramel notes in aroma. Sweet malt and german crips hops , with lighlty vinous alcohol warmth and vodka finale. Light ody doesnt support alchohol too well. Astringent notes in mouth. Unbalanced. 6-3-6-2-12

This ale pours a black colour with a light brown, almost creamy head. The scents include roasted barley with a touch of chocolate. First taste was very roastey with the roasted malts at the front.the finish is smooth with lingering malt and slight choco flavour. The palate tapers off its roasted flavour with a very small amount of bitterness. Delicious and one of my favourites!

11/24/03: Thin head which dissipates. Nice caramel and vinous aroma. Deep brown in colour. Same in mouth, but rather thin. Faint hops which cant seem to cut across the sweetness. Is the beer less tasteful than it used to be or is it just that i had much better old ales? 7-3-5-3-12 04/14/05: The new Olde Jack is now 5%! The bottle says Niagara Pale Ale but there is a little script saying Olde Jack...what the f...? Sickly golden ale with a thin white head. thevinous notes have given way to maple and C-hops. In mouth, a thinnish shy malt with little caramel and nutty notes. Rather mild hops. Getting closer to a session ale, with rather watery body. The Moosehead effect. 7-2-5-2-10 Average is 7-3-5-2-11

Pours a clear copper color with a thin off-white head. Cereal (cheerios) aroma. Medium body, with sweet caramel and cheerios flavor. Immediately reminded me of another beer I've rated...and finally it came to me. Goose Island Kilgubbin Red Ale. Gritstone has some characteristics of amber ales too. A nice surprise hiding in the bottom of the shipment CaptainCougar sent me!
