Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

Tap at Osaka Holiday 2025. One year aged. Dark brown, almost black. Savory nose of chocolate, roasted malts, soy sauce. Sweet and savory flavor, rich malt, clean fermentation. Nice. Not too heavy.

For you coriander lovers out there!

Daisen G Longevity Ale
Coriander Beer (sour ale? Gose?)

Ok, the label says it’s a spicy coriander Gose. Clear pale gold with thick white foam and an inviting coriander aroma. Medium bodied with a prickly carbonation. This is a nice looking gose. Nice clean coriander beer with a mild sourness. I could see this being a big hit in summery weather. No idea when it was released but I got it on sale for 300¥.

21/10/2024. Draft at Craft Beer Market Otemachi. Region #471. Japanese Prefecture 42/47. Pours clear deep amber bronze brown with a small frothy off-white head. Good pour. Aroma is smoky, peaty, bacon, bonfire, frazzles, toffee, raisins, wood. Taste is peated and smoked, starts quite sweet but balanced with bitterness which develops quite nicely. Medium body, smooth, average carbonation. Drying finish. Not a style I usually enjoy but appreciated this one.

Interesting. Feels like a weizenbock but sour and with the coffee too. Lots going on. Not sure I want all of that, but well done to them for giving it a go.

Daisen. G Zero-G IPA 7.5% I thought it was mosaic or Citra but apparently it’s hopped with a newer hop called nectarine. Opaque straw gold with eggshell white foam that leaves loads of Belgian lace. The initial aroma was very fruity. The beer has a medium body and while it starts of fruity it ends with a bitter citrus pith and dank aftertaste which isn’t a surprise from a West Coast IPA. Nice beer from Daisen G who I’ve not had in ages.

Slightly hazy golden with a thin white head. Slightly sweet, yeast, some light spice, bright tropical fruit in the aroma. Medium body. Plenty more fruit in the flavor, like mango and berries. Finish has a slight yeast bite. Not complex yet nice.
