Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

Deep orange with a firm white head. Aroma is sweet citrus, caramel malt, light toasted notes, and some pepper. The sweet malt and citrus are basically all that comes through in the flavor. Light bitterness. Full bodied. A very classic, solid pale ale.

Tap at Takumiya. Styled as a New England Weizenbock. Clooudy, pale yellow, pastel, with lace. Very hoppy nose, grapefruit, orange, lemon, wheat, light cloves. Flavor is super hoppy with nice weizen esters and cloves. Rich ahd delicious.

Tap at Takumiya. Hazy orange-golden with lace. Glowing. Resiny hop nose, citrus, biscuity malt. Pine and resin is big in the flavor, oranges, lemon, honey. Somewhat old school hop flavor, with a lot of malt that seem more Munich then carapils. Decent.

Tap at Craft House. Clear, bright golden color. Clean hop nose, minerasls, citrus, grapefruit, stone furits. Crisp, slightly sweet, but fruity hops and honey malts. Quite great.

Horrendous name, quite nice beer. Lots of hops and not so much Weizen. Weird one in there too. Nice!

Nice! Berliner weisse feel. Lots of fruitiness. Bit of sweetness too somehow. Don’t need the New England stuff in the description I reckon. Good stuff!

Bottle from Yamaoka. Straw golden, hazy, with a low, fine head. Nose is spicy Belgian yeast and substantial bready malt, with citrus hops and esters, cloves, a touch of banana. Lemony, peppery flavor, rich malt, wheat, biscuits, esters, banana, light stone fruit, spices. Nice peppery finish, more yeast than hop. Nice carbonation, body maybe just a bit heavy. Nicely done.
