Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

On tap at Raku. Pours a clear golden yellow color with a medium white head. Peppery, lemon, biscuit. Smooth, sweet at times but earthy overall, mild citrus grows, lemon especially, yeasty. Nice.

Tap at Takumi. Nose is rice, pilsner malt, light fruit, some stone fruit. Dry. Malty, rice flavor, lager character is there, but a bit of fruit and esters. Light and airy. Low hop and a bit thin. Ok, but not as appealing as their other two sake rice beers. A bit simple.

Malty, with modest hop character. This is fairly indistinguishable from the hordes of half ass made malt IPAs that many average breweries make. Expected better from Daisen

Bottle split at RB Best Hotel Lobby Share, post festival, 31/01/16. Light black wuth a decent tan cap. Nose is roast malts, light charr, chocolate, spice. Taste comprises dark fruit rinds, chocolate, black peppery spice, roast malts, faint coffee, dark toffee. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Sippable Impy ... ticks the style boxes but a touch basic.

Tap at Takumiya. Brown-orange, clear, with a low head. Light smoke but meaty nose of smoke salmon. Flaovr is decent, light, a bit sweet. Good but not as nice as their rauchbock was.
