Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

Hazy brown color with a mahogany tinge. Big estry sweet nose with cherries and chocolate. Malty, chocolates, modestly sweet, cherries, Plums and milk chocolate in the mouth. Lucious. Hands down best Dubbel in japan. Good stuff.

Tap at Bungalow. Spicy Belgian yeast nose, chocolate, raisins, pepper, and a bit of soy. Cloudy dark brown with orange tints and a low, fine head. Dry flavor with lots of umami, chocolate, some soy, or more like miso. Interesting. Yeast spiciness, quite bitter and finishes clean. Raisins. Not very sweet, but full and smooth without being heavy. Nice dubbel.

Backlog. Tap at CBM Koenji 2015. Deep brown to black with a half finger of beige head. Light roasted cacao nib and faint mint or coriander-like notes. Light on the palate, more porter-like honestly, with a dryish finish. Decent but not really that interesting.

Poured from 330mL bottle (2016.5.28 - 2016.8.26). Cloudy yellow with minimal white head. Yeast, spicy, coriander, pepper. More of a Belgian wit than a Saison. Fairly well done.

Tasting at Matt’s; vintage 2015
Hazy amber color, small head. Smells a bit like wheat wine, which is not promising; medium body strength, wheat wine flavor, so mostly candyish and cloying. A bit sour in the end.
Not very good.

Has a light amber, some haziness. No head. The nose has some caramel, soft body, and a sugary finish. Bit toasty. Just sort of OK, won’t age that well, and doesn’t have a lot of nuance.

330mL bottle, pours a hazy dark orange with a small white head. Aroma brings out bready malt, toasted caramel, and a little oxidation. Flavour is more of an English-style barley wine, with toasted bread, dry caramel and English malt. Medium sweetness for the style. Not overly complex, but it's alright. Solid.

Daisen red ale Copper red color with a yeasty eatery aroma, kind of thick. The taste is syrupy sweet and spicy evoking Weizen but not red ale at all.
