Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

Tap at Ushi Tora. Light caramel maltiness. Little bit of hop bitterness. Quite light all round. Refreshing but maybe bit lacklustre.

Tap at Keg Nagoya. Little bit of spice and smoke, and your regular weizen stuff. Light banana, wheaty sweetness. Nice but not much spark for me.

Tap at Craft Beer Market Toranomon. Pale blond, slightly cloudy. Big fluffy white head. Aroma wheat, bananas, ice cream, the usual. Quite fruity. Taste is nice. Creamy banana, quite sweet. Not so much wheat initially but a bit in the aftertaste. Solid weizen, but won't rush back to have it again.

Tap at Keyaki. Pale yellow, small white head. Aroma is herbal, yeasty, Belgian, nice, bit earthy. Taste is strawberry, grainy, herbal, coriander, white pepper. Maybe not so wildly exciting, but pretty nice. Bit of mango and citrus towards end.

Draught at Craft Heads. Yellow pale cloudy with small thin white head. Looks bit like a wheat beer. Aroma is ultra yeasty, sweet and weird, bit of bubblegum (sorachi ace?). Tastes like a lovely sweet saison with bubblegum and citrus. Some banana too. Spritzy in the mouth. Strange, interesting and very nice beer.
