Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

Draught at Craft Heads. Yellow pale cloudy with small thin white head. Looks bit like a wheat beer. Aroma is ultra yeasty, sweet and weird, bit of bubblegum (sorachi ace?). Tastes like a lovely sweet saison with bubblegum and citrus. Some banana too. Spritzy in the mouth. Strange, interesting and very nice beer.

I saw mark’s note on this so I tried to drink this as quickly as it was served. Fully agreed on the excellent malt character, medium bitterness, grassy notes. At the temp I drank it, it was dry and refreshing. Slight smooth mouth feel from the wheat. Really lovely. Excellent summer beer. I wanted something refreshing and this was fantastic.

Tap at Bungalow. Brilliant clear golden color with a foamy head. Zippy citrus and herbal hop nose, spicy, lovely. Light and crisp flavor of bread, lemon, herbs. Just a bit heavy and not quite bitter enough, and slightly more lemony than usual in Germany but good.

Daisen G x KBC San San 6.5% Opaque gold with a toejam and musty lactic aroma. The taste is much cleaner and it’s a solid brew.

Tap at Keyaki Spring 2019. Hazy pale gold with a tall head. Nose is spoiled milk, lemon, clove. Whearty, sour, lactic flavor, lemony. Soft, silky body with low carbonation. A strange bird. Not sure what I think!

Tap @ Beer Boy, Nakameguro. Pours lightly cloudy orange, so.e white foam on the top. Wheat tartness in the nose, also quite fruity. Some spices there as well, estery. Tastes tart, even acidic and fruity. Weizen character there, mainly through yeast esters and spices. A bit surprising experimental blend of styles- which is not bad at the end.

Apparently made with some amount of nihonshu (sake)? Quite smooth, goes down easily, deceptively strong-ish (for Asia).

Tap at Bungalow. Cloudy pale gold with a fine head. Crisp pilsner malt, wheat, npbe hops nose. Great nose. Creamy and sweet, very biscuity and malty. Lemon notes from the hops. Like KFC homestyle biscuits. Great malt flavor but a bit too sweet and heavy, and sadly it was a bit too warm, which didn't help. Some light tropical fruit notes. Full, smooth.

Tap at Craft House. Black with a fine head. Nose is chocolate, light smoke, some berries. Light and clean flavor, dark chocolate and a bit of smoke. Very roasty finish. Quite complex and still easy drinking though not all that smoky.
