Description
Daisen G Beer is a craft beer brewery located in Tottori prefecture, in the Chugoku region, just north of Okayama. Located at the base of Mt. Daisen, which is more commonly known as Hōkifuji in the area, the brewery opened in 1997 as an off-shoot of the sake producing company Kumezakura Shuzō and San-in Sanso Corporation, a company that deals with high-pressure gas. The local area is famous for its clear spring water, sourced from the snow at the top of the mountain, and its black soil, kuroboku in Japanese, which is said to be some of the most fertile in Japan. This fertile soil has resulted in Daisen G Beer being able to grow its own barley, in the form of Daisen Gold, in the spring; Daisen G Beer’s own hops, called Weihen Hop, which are harvested in the summer, and also Yamadanishiki, a sake yeast that is used in the production of the beers such as Daisen G Yagō.

Daisen G One & Only Saison 5.5% Opaque bright straw gold with minimal head and a mild spicy aroma. The taste is very much classic spicy peppery grisette with sweet clove like notes and yummy wheat. Medium to full bodied but with a crisp finish. This is a summer quenching saison for sure, yum. No surprise from the guys who put out the top quality Grand Saison.

Bottle from Yamaoka. Deep orange to light amber with a tall, bubbly head. Nose is rich rice, yeasty esters, citrus, peach, banana, bread. Rich, malty, rice, perfume, toast, nutty, esters, cloves. Lacks the precise balance of the regular, adds a big, malty punch. Very estery and spicy, but has a nice fruity finish with lingering rice and grains.

This cloudy rainy gray weather has me craving something dark... Daisen G Dark Mild 3.5% Reddish brown with minimal head and a coffee crisp toffee wafer biscuit aroma. Fairly light bodied which is normal for the abv. Nice caramel toffee flavor with a crisp finish. Nice.

I had no idea they made a double IPA... Daisen G Beer Double IPA 8% First whiff is classic rich West Coast Double IPA . The beer pours like a hazy murky matte orange cooor with an amazingly dense head of foam. So much so it actually poured out of the dregs like a smoothie! The taste is rich stone fruits, some bitter spice , sweetness and all in all very nice. I’d get more. I’d say this is something like one of those mountain IPAs...

Fantastic. The first version was great, with KBC. This is just as good, solo. Apparently there’s packed meaning in the kanji/name...

Dubbel oud bruin hybrid feel. Not got the bruin fruitiness but got the vinegar part. Background has the dubbel ovaltine maltiness. Interesting.
