Cask at the Monkโs Retreat (JDW), Reading. Brown with a moderate cream head and a surprisingly lively fizz for a cask ale. Strong toffee aroma is rather appealing. Toffee and malt dominates throughout, and although the mouthfeel is a little thin, the flavour is rich throughout. Not sure about the pumpkin, but there seems to be some cinnamon and chocolate coming through. And, bizarrely, some roast beef. And brown sauce. Quite liked this, although felt oddly guilty for doing so. On a blind tasting I would have classified it as a brown ale. Some crackly Autumn leaves and leaf mulch completed what was quite an interesting beer.

On gravity at the Commercial Rooms (JDW), Bristol, October 2013. Reddish-amber with a slight, off-white head. Sweetish, malty bitter, with some berry fruits, touch of roast and some caramel, before a moderately bitter finish. Couldnโt detect any pumpkin.

The Hain Line, St Ives. Cask. Pretty much a clear amber beer with a small off white head. Palate is smooth and dry with fine carbonation. Sweetish malt and sweetish pumpkin and a little nuttyness. Whisper of spice. Finishes semi dry with mild peel bitterness. Interesting and quite drinkable.

50 cl. can. Clear, light amber colour with a golden tint, Small, dense white head. Fruity aroma with spicy, floral and citrus hops. Caramel malts. Taste is light bitter. Medium body with a thinner texture and a lively carbonation that dots the tongue. Finishes bitter and dry with spices and floral hops. Nice IPA/ESB in a classic British style. Good taste - price ratio.

Cask, handpump Monday 4th November 2013 from White Horse, Banbury; Oxon, at Banbury Beer Festival mtg Pours chestnut brown with very good clarity. A robust malt forward beer, hops are virtually non-existent, a little spice, caramel, mmhh.. perhaps some pumpkin I am not too sure. Its fine and in good nick, half was enough though. A6 A4 T6 P3 Ov12 3.1

Cask @ White Star, Stoke. Appearance is dark-ish gold, not quite copper. Fresh orange peel and freshly cut wood in the nose. Taste: yum. Deep, malty, herby, moderately sweet. A very decent ale when served well, but its relative ubiquity means it is often sampled in substandard condition. Have it in a proper real ale pub!

Cask @ Wheatsheaf (JDW), Stoke. Clear brownish copper. Nice head. Aroma ok. Metallic and medicinal. Taste: not much there. A bit bland and sour. Un-pumpkinlike. Bitter finish. Donโt see the point of this beer. A reasonably empty experience.

Can. A dark golden beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, and spicy hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and dusty hops, leading to a bitter finish.

Cask at Tanners Hall JDW Darlington. Copper-brown amber colour, creamy off-white head leaving some lacing and aroma is light malty. Taste is pumpkin, biscuity malt, nutty. Watery mouthfeel, light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, bitter finish. OK.

Cask at the Moon Under Water (JDW), Watford on 17 October. Poured a clear, dark copper colour with a scummy white head and good lacing. Malty aroma with caramel and light spice. Dry malt flavours with coriander and brown sugar. Finishes with cereal, nutmeg and toffee.
